The train is clean and the food is nice but it seems it is delayed a lot. We booked a two way trip from Delhi to Agra and the train got delayed both the times (1.5hrs and then 3.5hrs on return!). We would have booked shatabdi if we knew better.

Rather than drive from Delhi to Agra we took the train. It took 1hr 40mins.

The carriage we booked was allegedly air conditioned and catering was provided. The carriage was basic and heaving.

To be honest the parcelled food and drink provided looked ok but we didn’t want to take the risk so we opted for our own crisps and bottled water.

Irrespective, I wouldn’t have missed the experience.

Worst experience ever! Avoid any tour/ travel with this “express” train. Runs at a snails pace. We had a planned day tour to Agra with kids. The 90min train ride from New Delhi to Agra was delayed by 2.5 hours and was delayed by 6 hours on the way back!! We were able to cover the main 2 attractions Taj Mahal and Agra fort. We had to pass on the remaining ones as we were running late. The return journey was even more traumatic and we reached Delhi at 1:05am.

We rode this train on two separate occasions. No complaints about the timing. However, the cleanliness leaves much to be desired. The food trays come with unwrapped silverware. Tea bag, sugar, and powdered milk comes in a paper packet. On one leg of the train my paper packet was not properly sealed.

This is not a high speed train. It takes much longer to reach Agra from New Delhi than 1 and 1/2 hours as advertised. The train left on time, but took over 3 hours to reach Agra Cantt.
It is still the fastest way to reach Agra but your time in Agra will be impacted so plan accordingly.

I‘m a European, with Indian roots and I have seen the Taj Mahal several times now (it’s really amazing, a must see). This time, I wanted to give the Gatimaan express a try. It sounded very appealing to me, to reach the Taj in under 2 hours, so I gave it a try. But…… then the problems came. Booking the ticket online, is WAY to complicated (booking a plane ticket on indigo is easier). You need to create a special account, then the OTP SMS / Email is not coming. You try again and again - and the OTP limit for the day is reached. So you have to wait for the next day. Problematic, if your time is limited. Right, then we Finally got the tickets as email, went to the station, and showed the ticket officer our tickets. He said they are not valid, and we should talk to another person he referred to, who then offered us cash tickets, for 2000 rupees each (normal price ca. 1500). We disagreed, and finally later just boarded the train, because we had payed for the tickets. The ticket instructor with higher rank came later, then just scanned the QR code and it was all fine. We barley escaped a money trap. If you act correctly like in Europe, you will be scammed. The ride was ok, smooth and on time. Food was below average. Service was excellent. The serving staff was very fast and friendly. The real disaster came when we left the train. It’s not Gatimaans express fault, but they should take care of the whole experience. The taxi drivers, baggers and shop owners, where so bad behaving, that it spoiled the whole Taj Mahal Experience. If somebody comes to india to see the Taj Mahal, all that you will remember are these bad things. They won’t stop following you, and won’t respect your privacy / personal space. They talk in your face. 3-4 persons at the same time, like automated tape machines without stopping. Get a private driver with car / mini van in Delhi. Who also acts like a guide and looks india (so the others won’t approach you / he will serve as an firewall). Then you have the best experience, more or less, in peace. India should protect the tourists more, by controlling these people more. They have no respect, they will 100% lie to you, they will scam you, and if you are white skin coloured, you’ll be surrounded by them like flys. It was horrible. Get a private driver! Sorry india. But you have to improve here. 🙏🏼

This was a quick and easy way to get to Agra - once you have negotiated the train station and avoided bag carriers! Clean, comfortable, lots of leg room. Breakfast was simple but adequate and service was faultless. You can certainly do a day trip from Delhi to Agra using this service as return early evening. If you are going one way, plenty of luggage space. Newspapers given out too so good to learn a bit of 'local news.

our group had tickets in the best part of the train
the journey between Delhi and Agra was reasonably fast
I would not recommend eating any of the food offered as the train was grubby and there was nothing in sealed packaging

India’s fastest train, it takes you from Nizamuddin station in Delhi to Agra Cantonment station in just 100 minutes. Spacious seating & hot food add to the experience.

Fastest route from Delhi to Agra, and you get to depart from the slightly calmer H. Nizamuddin rather than the central New Delhi station. The way to Agra was on time, while the way back took an extra 10-15 minutes. But compared to what I’m used to in the U.S., it wasn’t bad. I think it would be a more comfortable and faster ride than being stuck in a car or bus in Indian traffic.

The food is a bit sad-looking, but I like that breakfast and dinner came with flavorful Indian hot meals. Yes, the tray they first give you is depressing, but the staff then bring out little reheated dishes of more flavorful Indian food. I didn’t get sick at all though I avoided the raw fruits and vegetables or the piping hot milk. Note you can ask for instant coffee rather than the default tea bag, but you have to ask. And all the staff I met were very friendly.

The only little hiccup was the bathroom, which broke. Fortunately there is one in each car (two if you’re happy to go “old school”). But they often had no toilet paper. The staff would supplement with paper napkins, but maybe that’s why our WC was dysfunctional lol

If you’re expecting first-class train service then no, this isn’t it. But it’s a fast, safe, and comfortable ride for a day trip to Agra, and do you really want to be stuck in a car for 2-3 hours in Indian traffic?

Note: I booked tickets via Expedia so I’m sure it’s a little more confusing if you do it yourself. This is a review of the train ride only!
