With the names of the Indian Army's fallen soldiers chiseled onto the side of this tall memorial, it is a proud and well maintained structure. We appreciated the eternal flame and honor guard showing respect for India's honored military. The only disconcerting aspect were all the hawkers selling bubble machines, light sabers, and every imaginable toy we would not need. On the other hand, we loved the wide, open plaza (one of the few open spaces in crazy crowded New Delhi) that lies between the War Memorial and the President's Palace. Make sure to visit them both to get a a feel fir India's history.

The newly built War Memorial is a Tribute to our Martyrs who laid life for the Motherland. It’s not a place to Comment upon but I would like to share that being there it fills you with a feeling of Pride for your Great Country and Great People who are ready to sacrifice everything for their Soil. Great Architecture! Beutiful Location And it matches perfectly to the India Gate in Background!... Must go place for all Indians!

TUCKED away from Delhi's frantic life lies this peaceful memorial and gardens.
It is a place for respect and contemplation and is spread out over forty acres of gardens and paths.
This is a new site and was only completed and unveiled in 2019.
I visited it during a morning when I also went and saw the famous and very impressive India Gate.
The National War Memorial has been beautifully designed but, by the very nature of what it represents, there is a strong security presence that visitors should be aware of and co-operate with.
Flowering trees welcome those who go there while gently curving paths guide people to a wall of remembrance which both names the fallen and allows a little niche with each name so small floral tributes can be inserted. I saw this done at many sections of the wall.
There are four concentric circles at the Memorial which has a central obelisk at the bottom of which burns an eternal flame representing the immortal soldier.
I was able to stand at the top and look down into the memorial bowl and the sentry on duty nearby on a covered stand.
Many came to pay their respects while I was there and I left with a clear impression that while those remembered were gone they were not forgotten.
The Memorial is definitely worth a visit and should be viewed in tandem with India Gate for the best overall impression.
There are nearby toilets and visitors should take bottled water with them because the general site is quite exposed.

Very well kept arboretum. Respectfully designed to remember fallen military personnel up to present day. Guard of honour on duty. Excellent wall memorials (under cover).

Toilets available, wheelchair friendly. Surrounding plants well kept. Staff and military personnel extremely helpful.

This superbly architectures memorial to all those defence personnel who laid down their lives in the various wars and in their line of duties to protect the motherland post independence. The construction is in a vast circular pattern with four circles namely circle of immortality, circle of bravery, circle of sacrifice an drew circle of protection. The best part is the care taken to chronicle the names of everyone irrespective of the rank, service, region in small red stone blocks neatly positioned in symmetric arcs. Very cryptic writeups about major battles are inscribed on wall etchings. The entire area is neat and beautifully designed. It is definitely a fitting tribute to the memories of all those who attained martyrdom for country's defence. There is a small souvenir outlet.
