- Daydream047382620781 contributionGreat family outingtook my six year old grand daughter. We both had a great time. we enjoyed all the events. I hope to take her again next year. The only down side, it was a little pricey but that will not stop us from returning Lord Willing.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 25, 2023
- Jenni FMinneapolis, Minnesota9 contributionsDecent, fun, would be great if you have younger kidsAsa, our tour guide, was great - helpful, enthusiastic and personable. I loved the fire juggling as well. We liked the cavern tour, though I expected the cave tour to be more walking and less of one large room. There were a few little off shoots, but it was mostly one large cavern. That said, it was very beautiful. The light show was just OK. I thought from the website it was going to be really big and impressive, but it was mildly pretty, the clouds were cool, but it was just repetitive after the first minute or two. It would probably impress little kids, but not so much teens or adults. The theme of the light show was the 6 days of creation, so if that's not your thing, you could probably duck out B4 it starts.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 14, 2024
- SanzMiami, Florida95 contributionsGreat family dayWe visited yesterday with a 9 and 10-year old. The cave tour was awesome. So beautiful. The light show was cool. There was lots to do and we spent about 5 hours there. The gift shop had some really beautiful things. The food is limited (4 options I believe) and nothing except chips for people with a gluten allergy. We had a fun day. It was something different to do from the normal beaches we have in Miami.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 28, 2024
- Kimberley R B5 contributionsAwesome experience!Hands down a wonderful time! Caves were wonderful and activities were fun. Went with Girl Scout troop and they were mesmerized by the caves. Roman our guide was so fun and did a great job with the girls! Tour guide James was very knowledgeable and told a great story! Everyone loved this and want to return to do it again.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 2, 2024
- revenue_razor_auBerwick, Australia209 contributionsAn experience you don’t often come byVisiting from Melbourne Australia, the Majestic Cavern was a chance finding based on a sign seen on the side of the road when heading to go to the Talledega Raceway. The Cavern was all we intended to see, but there appears to be some other activities aimed and young children. The Cavern tour took about 45mins and cost about $105 USD for three adults. We had recent high school graduate Atticus as our guide, he spoke well and gave an insightful overview of the Cavern’s history. The sheer size of the Cavern is in itself impressive, but to have the history it has is next level interesting. The coloured lights and short laser-light and water show were a nice little extra. I recommend wearing shoes with grip as crocs or flip-flops would be risky due to moisture in the cave. The cave temperature sits at a very nice 60°F (15.5°C), so is enjoyable no matter what the outside temperature is.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 17, 2024
- Beretta KPetal, Mississippi8 contributionsDisappointedWhile the laser show was amazing the cavern is much smaller than we expected. I also purchased all inclusive tickets so we could enjoy the attractions for older kids; however the only ones that had attendees were the two gem ones and no one was even there to verify we had paid. I was very disappointed in that. If you go I suggest purchasing tickets there and making sure the attractions have attendees.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 5, 2024

My father and I are on road trip through Alabama state parks, natural wonders, hikes, mills, etc. basically anything pretty with some history behind it but we did focus more on caves, caverns and canyons. So naturally, Desoto Caverns made our list...but won’t make any future lists for sure. I guess if you had kids they might enjoy the surrounding entertainment, but for adults looking for informative entertainment while touring a natural formation AND hoping to stay safe during a pandemic, this isn’t the place. On a side note, if you are one of those adults, drive a little further north to Cathedral Caverns, pay less and see a LOT more with interesting history included while being safe during a global pandemic.
About Desoto, we opted for just the cave tour since that’s the only reason we went and weren’t interested in kiddy games. We were surprised at how large the group for our tour was, as I would think there would be a smaller limit during these times. Also not everyone was wearing a mask and the two tour guides weren’t either! I don’t mind if they prefer a face shield so that others can hear better or see their lips, but some protective wear would be thoughtful. The guides were kids (as seemed every employee in the park!) younger than 18 and were more interested in telling corny jokes than giving any real information. I’m not exaggerating when I say I believe at least 30 jokes were told during the less than one hour tour. Only one of the guides knew anything about the cave but he talked so fast you couldn’t understand 70% of what he said. Both spoke like they were reading from a script and thus stumbled over their words repeatedly. I guess it’s not their fault as they are performing in adult positions but the management (wherever it was) should consider putting adults in these roles.
The cave was awe-inspiring to say the least. But it would’ve been nice if the owners kept it a bit more natural instead of installing a large rocked stage in the middle to house lasers for the show. It was a bit overkill since just keeping some colored lights up would’ve sufficed.
All in all, I am happy the privately owned park allows the public to enter the cave but they are getting more money than the worth of the experience. I won’t be returning and I’ll discourage others to go as well. What a shame.

This park is overpriced, especially for seniors visiting alone. The only thing that I was interested in was the Cavern Tour. I should not have had to pay for “inclusive” when the rest of the park is geared toward children and families. With large groups some sort of microphone should be used so that everyone can hear the tour guide. The guide spoke very fast and was sometimes indistinguishable. The light show had technical issues. For $50.00 that’s unacceptable. Many seniors are on fixed incomes and if you’re going to charge that much, please make sure that everything works. Also, it would help and be safer with at least two staffers, one in front and one in back (of groups).

We went to the Caverns this past Sat. and was so surprised how not busy it was. I had purchased our tickets online and saved $5.00 each.
The was so much to do to interact with my family and have fun. We did the archery area and then had a blast doing the air cannons with the mini balls.
We watched live re-enactors doing hands on things and were so nice and engaging to the kids and even adults that asked questions. We then had a set time to go into the Caverns. Our guide was a young man named Austin and he was funny and very informative. We learned a lot and got to see most of the underground area. It is truly beautiful and a chance to do something different. Afterwards we panned for gems, which even my teenager enjoyed, we got snacks , played putt and trick basketball. Watched some families do the water-balloons fights and that was so much fun as well. Great day to spend with family and with the park not being crowed we got to enjoy it even better. Worth the travel to get there and the admission for the day.

Let’s start out as this campground was very misleading. We thought it was at Desota State park, No wonder desota caverns changed their name 3 times! Improve the campground, improve or update the kids activities just clean it up. Allow campers full unlimited time in the activities area. Provide hiking trails even if it’s up the mountain and down. Prices is outrageous, nothing to do in the area have to drive over an hour to hike or other activities. No playground in the camp area, the drainage ditches had mosquitoes and knots bad, the covered pavilion had holes in the roof so it was wet,

Our family visited on New Year’s Eve, and what a great way to end the year! The whole staff is super friendly. Alexander was a great tour guide, and Forest completely engaged my kids with his blacksmithing skills. Well done and thank you for an amazing experience.

I came at the right time of day and was able to have a tour of the cave all to myself. Willow was my guide and it was clear she is very passionate about what she does and has a thorough knowledge of the history behind the cave. I’ve toured caves in Ohio and and Kentucky, and I think this one is the most beautiful that I’ve seen.

We brought a Cub Scout Pack to DeSoto Caverns for their EPIC Overnight Experience and they were truly amazing! Throughout the planning process, they were extremely flexible and helpful. Our guide was with us the entire day and evening and he really went out of his way to make it a memorable experience for everyone ...kids of various ages and adults!

The caverns are a historical part of the area and it was amazing this family has maintained such a wonderful piece of history for decades, sharing with the public in such a fun and exciting way. We purchased the all inclusive pass with a meal. We were disappointed that there was no entertainment available on the day we visited, yet it was part of our ticket price (i.e. forging, juggling, etc). However, the visit was a fun and unique experience for our whole family.

I have been to this Cave twice in the last year and have recently grown an interest in these very, very historic places. There are things here that date back millions of years as well as hundreds of years old. This area of the country has a few of these still open - go while you can. There is a pretty big kids amusement area around this particular cave as a few are set up similiar - this one is aimed at that. The cave area is interesting enough but they add a new dimension - go and find out what I mean, please.

Is there a military discount for active duty members?
Written March 11, 2020
I'm not sure if there is a military discount, however I can tell you that it's a family owned business and they are VERY friendly and flexible to your needs!

Can anyone recommend a hotel nearby? We are driving through in April. This was a favorite childhood field trip... so I'd love to share the Caverns with my husband and daughter.

Back in October, we stayed at the Days Inn by Wyndham Childersburg and it was good enough. For the price, I recommend staying there. It was clean and we didn't have any problems. And you can walk to the Waffle House. :-)

Yes, they have a few disc golf basket setup over the property and they provide discs upon ticket purchase - it's not a very long course but in combination with other activities there is plenty to do.

Do children 3 and under have to purchase tickets to the fun park?
Written July 29, 2017
You will need to call the park for that information. Sorry. My guess is since they are a family owned/managed attraction, is that they will be closed. But call to check to get that information

I saw some reviewers mention water activities. Do we need to bring swimsuits?

Yes! The bubble game and the water balloon game can you get you pretty soaked. We didn't know and left with wet clothes and hair :/
