About
ATV/Quad Rental Flying Pirates - ride an ATV, with or without a guide, through a private, off-limits-to-everyone-else, 1,500 acre rainforest! Your day begins in the heart of Bocas town, where you will be picked up and shuttled to our secondary location just outside of town. We offer surf racks, for those of you wanting to hit the waves while you are out, and all of our bikes come with lock boxes attached for your cameras and cash. Wind your way out of town until you hit Bluff Road and just keep right on going until you reach our property. The Flying Pirates trails will take you through the jungle, then alongside pristine beaches, all perfect for a pit stop and some swimming. Rock Beach, La Piscina and, the newly accessible Blue Lagoon, are all gorgeous natural water formations perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Explore the caves at the tip of the island, and return through Monkey Trail. If you rev your engines a little bit, the monkeys might just yell back at you.

- kaylamackaninMarina del Rey, California2 contributionsA "MUST do" for the adventurerThis is my second time renting quads with Flying Pirates. I LOVE Panama and bringing people from the US to explore and discover this incredible country. This year I had brought a group of friends down from the states who had all never been to Panama and Bocas Del Toro and the Flying Pirates Quad Rides was a MUST. Steve and his wife own the business and is the friendliest pirate I know. Everyone loved it!! We got such great pictures and got to coast along beautiful beaches and rip up some mud in the jungle. It's imperative to follow Steve's instructions when it comes to what trails to take and how to find your way. Water levels vary in Panama due to the seasons so you must use common sense when approaches small water holes/puddles and assess depth before trying to drive through them. Respect the locals, other tourists, and animals while on your ATV ride. Many people walk and bike on parts of the path so slow down when you're approaching people. Of the two trips (2021 and 2022), we had 1 minor ATV accident (no human harm, driver's fault) that resulted in property damage to one of the ATVs. Steve was reasonable and comfortable to work with, in a not so comfortable situation. We paid appropriately for the damage and appreciated his approach to the situation. Did I mention we saw Howler monkeys up in the trees? So Cool!! We stopped for a bit and took a dip in a little laguna. Just an incredible experience. Thank you so much Flying Pirates! 10/10 recommend during your Bocas Del Toro/Panama experience.Visited December 2022Written January 10, 2023
- Alison CChicago, Illinois2 contributionsWhat an adventure! What an experience! My husband and I took the ATVs out for a self-guided half-day and had the time of our lives. If you like adventure, highly recommend! Bring shoes you don’t care about because you will get filthy. They did take us out to take some pictures before we went on our own way. Great experience!Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 6, 2023

- Aimee M5 contributionsThe most fun everWe rented a quad for a full day jungle experience from flying pirates. This was honestly the most fun ever. It is definitely for the adventurous - they give you a helmet, tell you how the quad bike works and the route to take, give you a phone number in case you get in trouble (even though there’s no signal) and off you go! We loved this - for us it was soooo much better than going with a guide - just being able to explore at our own pace was amazing! The trail was rough though! The bridges were pretty ropey and a couple times I had to get off and push. If you’re not up for a real adventure that might be a big hit raising and scary at times it’s not for you! We absolutely loved it though and had the best time. We came back filthy, a bit battered and bruised, stung, bit and having had the greatest day. I feel like it was pretty good value for money too and you get a free beer and a shower at the end. The food at flying pirates is pretty great too. Recommend times a million.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2023
- GypsygirlPenfieldNankin, Ohio253 contributionsReasonable prices, needs some TLC thoughRented a 4-wheeler to explore the island for a half day. Reasonable prices, easy enough to do paperwork, etc. The 4-wheeler was not in the best shape, had a few issues. Hubby said upkeep is needed. Also, the lockbox on the back that you can put your bags etc inside was super dirty, and somehow stained our hats and my bag pretty bad from just like, dirt, I don't know. I know it's a 4-wheeler but c'mon man.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 2, 2023
- Hope BCleveland, Ohio85 contributionsPerfect day on the ATVWe did a full day rental of the ATV and paid for the extra jungle portion. Highly recommend doing this for a day! They gave great directions of places to check out, and these areas are private so they are nearly empty. We spent an afternoon lounging by the ocean with no one else in sight. You will get muddy on the ride, so plan for that. Would do this trip again!Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 24, 2023
- JenintheAirAustin, Texas34 contributionsMasses of fun!If you really want to get around to visit all the beautiful beaches and sites on Isla Colón, I highly recommend renting a bike or ATV. There are some shuttle busses that operate from Bocas Town as a budget-conscious alternative. We wanted to set our own schedule and have flexibility, so we decided to rent ATVs. This was by far the best decision and it was masses of fun! Just pop into Flying Pirates when you arrive. If you know how to ride a motorcycle or can drive a manual stick shift, you’ll have no trouble learning to operate the ATVs. We got a quick tutorial and we were off!Visited April 2023Written July 12, 2023

Rainy day on the island so we decided to change from the beach and to rent ATV for half day wih flying pirates . Was amazing ! We had time to go to Bluff and to Bocas del Drago, perfect . We had a lot of fun and the staff was really nice and welcoming! We recommend you to have a break at Skully’s bar when you finish the activity, some beers or cocktails beside the swimming pool !

We did a half day and it was more than enough for us older folks.
Great service.
They first pick you up and take you to the drop off point to get a quad. They go over in great detail on where to ride for experience in in experienced riders. They go over in great detail on how to use the quad, very professional.
You then get to go out on your own, which we have never done, as most places make you go in a group. You ride on private land through the jungle and extreme adventures riding for sure. We had so much fun. You can stop at a couple of lagoons and go for a swim to cool off. Wow were we sore after though, very rough but very fun. Then you go back to skullys and are offered a beer and you can have a shower and a swim in the pool. Then the owner the flying pirate asked if we wanted another beer and took us back to town and dropped us off wherever we want to be dropped off. His wife picked us up and he drove us home. Both fantastic people and great with people. Had great chats with Steve the pirate.
Would highly recommend. Great service by all.

The best way to see Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro. The ATV allowed us to explore the Plastic Bottle Village. We continued up the interior all the way to Playa Drago. We saw monkeys, bird nests, and colorful birds. It was a rough road filled with potholes, but the ATV handled all the obstacles.
The staff were friendly and informative.

This may have been my favourite day in Panama. The staff at Flying Pirates are amazing, friendly, funny and helpful. The ATV trail is simply amazing, beautiful scenery and for the most part, we had all these gorgeous spots to ourselves. Can't recommend doing this enough if you're in Bocas! You also get two beers after your trip, and while I didn't stay at Skully's it looks like a very cool spot to stay with a great view.

I cannot say enough about this place. I had never ridden a quad before. Staff took plenty of time to explain how the quads work, explained all the safety features and made sure I was ready to go. They even provided the helmets. They were thorough on explaining where the trails were and made sure we didn’t get lost and that the beaches were not for riding quads on. Plenty of areas to stop and go on foot to the beaches. The jungle was amazing and we were able to see and hear howler monkeys. When this virus stuff is over, I will be back! Oh, and the cost was very reasonable. If you go to Bocas, don’t miss the flying pirates. Thanks for wonderful memories.

My wife and I had the best time at Flying Pirates. They have everything you need to have a blast. The hotel is right on the beach and the rooms are great! The price is extremely attractive for what you get. If you want to go cheap you can opt for the hostel which is still vary nice and extremely cool. Also you can rent quads and go on a jungle ride right along the beach and then into the jungle to see and hear howling monkeys and lots of other life. Take your swimsuit because you will pass by spots that are so cool you will have to stop and enjoy them. After your ride, go back and enjoy the pool, bar and restaurant all right on the beach! This place is the best. We are already planing our next trip!

Good place to rent an ATV or electric bike to tour around the island. Only downside side is that they no longer lease the mountain and forest area so you're restricted to riding the streets of Bocas, which can be a challenge. The road to Bpcas del Brago is in pretty bad shape so stay alert and watch out for potholes, they're everywhere! Four star rating is due to the difficulty in renting the ATV's and not being able to go off road. This is a CASH ONLY business that only accepts deposits via PayPal or in person. This is not noted on their website so caused a bit of trouble trying to get the booking confirmed. We ended up calling them and after a great deal of back and forth about the website, we ended up using PayPal to make our deposit. Even if you get an email confirming your reservation, you must make a cash deposit to make it valid.

It was fantastic to rent the ATVs from them. It's simply the best (but surely not the cheapest) way to explore the island. We have been given clear instructions and they took enough time to teach us how to drive the ATVs. After reviewing the "Wall of Pain" we appreciated this even more. Also the whole place is quite cool, live music, really good food and drinks. The only negative thing was they only accept cash, no credit cards, so if you rent multiple days you have to have a couple hundreds in cash with you, which may be a huge surprise when you arrive there. However, they also accept Paypal, which is a fair option as it can be set up to be connected to your credit card.

Thank you for your review. It is wonderful that you enjoyed. It is important for us to be sure that you are well trained as the jungle adventure is challenging driving. You are right, we don't have card reader as it is quite difficult to get bank account in Panama. Many places do not accept cards in Bocas, as we have many small businesses here. PayPal is an option, but we still prefer cash, for the same reasons.

I wouldn't do it without close toed shoes! Especially if you are the driver as you have to shift both up and down with your left foot.
