This is our 2nd visit to Bocas Del Toro and both times we have went Scuba Diving with Starfleet. The staff is the best, Roosevelt is very patient and a great instructor. Great diving for beginners and experienced divers.

The short version first: Do your diving and courses somewhere else becouse it is unsafe and unprefessional. The long version: My son and another poor soul did the Open Water Certificate with instructor Roosvelt Diaz who was unfriendly, unprofessional and unsafe. He was late every morning and held basicaly no lessons at all. The two students vere let to them selfs to watch the PADI video with basicaly no explanations. When they asked something they got a very short answer if any or a quote from the manual. I´m an quite experienced diver with both military and PADI training and I joined them for two dives. The dives were done without any explanations beforehand, there was no explanation about the dive sites, no planing at all, nothing about depth or diving time, he was not talking to the students on the boat and he never checked the students or the other divers gear or if they understood what was going to happend. I hardly got any answers when I asked something about the sites or the plan. Diaz hardly talked. During the dives he was always in front, he never looked back to check how the divers were doing. The group was mixed with fun divers that had never been diving before. One just surfaced from 15m becouse of mask problems. My son run out of air and I had to "tell him" to take him up. He did it without any safety stop. Starfleet didn´t follow any safety regulation, Diaz and his mate did not have a computer during the dive. Nobody had except me. My son didn´t have a depth meter just the manometer so he couldn´t see how deep he was. And last there was no Buddy check before the dive, well nobody was even formaly paired with a buddy!!! Nobody from the Starfleet checked the students gear before the dive on the boat. I have dived all over the world and I have never ever seen such negligence and such breaking of safety regulations. This must be one of the worst dive shops in the world. Just do not dive at Starfleet it is unsafe. I have reported it to PADI, Starfleet shouldn´t be affiliated to PADI at all.

Starfleet is not the biggest dive shop, nor the fanciest, but is one of the original and the best place to dive in Bocas. Manuel & Chombo pay a great attention to detail and deliver personalized attention that the big dive shops can't. I come here every year to dive & will continue to every time I am in Bocas.

I walked in on Starfleet very spontaneously. Since i was told at my hostel (selinas) that a open water course was 380 dollars, i was very positively surprised when starfleet only asked for 250. I was the only person doing the course the next day and had a very satisfying 1 to 1 course. Chombo the instructor was professional, explaining and showing very carefully and well every step that had to be taken to successfully finish the course. I felt very save during all the time and got my certificat a few days after finishing the course. I recoment Starfleet to everyone that wants to dive!

I did my 3 day PADI Open diver certification course at Starfleet Scuba in March, 2016. The course itself was ok and since I haven't dived elsewhere, I am unable to comment much on the quality compared to other dive schools in Bocas or elsewhere. But my problems started after the course actually ended. I was assured by the main instructor there that I would receive my PADI diving number in a few days by email but I received absolutely no communication neither from Starfleet nor from PADI for several days. Starfleet doesn't have any official website so I didn't have any official email id or telephone number of theirs. I tried putting pressure on Starfleet to register me with PADI through another contact on the island but even that lead went silent after a while. I was afraid all the time and money I spent diving there might go in vain. But thankfully, after 2 months of efforts, I managed to put pressure on the instructor there through the hostel I had stayed in, and that is how I eventually received my PADI certification number! This Starfleet Scuba establishment seriously lacks trust.
