This is a beautiful island full of aboriginals and Taiwanese people, if you are a nature lover then you have to check this out. Orchid Island (Lanyu) is accessible by either a 25 minute 19 seater plane ride (books out months in advance) or a 2+ hour ferry ride over the Philippine Sea. Due to adverse weather it is not... Growing up in Taiwan, I've heard about Lanyu since I was very little. But it wasn't until last year when I started studying in the States did I start to think about visiting this island. Lucky enough, I got an opportunity to come back to Taiwan during summer vacation and I visited this paradise in June. This is definitely the... More

This is a good island if you want to just chill out. It's a little over two hours ferry ride from Fugang Harbor 富岡漁港 in Taitung 台東. Round trip is about $2400nt (one way $1200nt). To bring your own scooter is $300nt each way. It's a nice island but wasn't for me, at least not for this trip. I was... More

Getting the boat from Taitung can be a bit of a hit/miss affair. I got to the port at 8am but there wasn't a boat till 1pm. Oh well all part of travelling. The island is a tropical paradise. I fortunately met a Chinese speaking Canadian guy and tag along with him. I would recommend trying to book a place... More

Pls get accommodation off the airport/harbour side to enjoy original islanders' hospitality. Work yourself through them to explore. If you don't have or find a place, don't panic, go to that side+ask, they help. If you scuba dive and/or fall for the fancy schools and resorts on the airport side with well-English speaking people, fancy lodges, expect a top-reckless rip-off.... More

I visited the Taitung ferry people on Sunday August 2 2015 for my desired sail day to Lanyu on Monday August 3. It takes a lot of maneuvering on public transportation and some speaking with locals to get to the harbor. This is to say ENERGY is spent just trying to get information. At the harbor the customer service was... More

Lovely little island with a slow pace of life. Inhabited almost exclusively by aborigines, though a few Han people live there too.

It's quite a hassle to get to Orchid island (Lanyu) but it's totally worth it. It takes about 2.5 ferry ride from Taidong to Lanyu and oh man! it's pretty rough! Many people threw up but luckily I did not. The island has its special charm. We stayed there for 4 days and it's too short!! We rented motorcycles and... More
