Absolute tranquility and peace. The waters are calm and the places around the lake are fabulous.A must visit if you can spare two days. That's a minimum duration folks. Please visit if you are in Taiwan.Great boat ride experience, rope way experience and many more attractions.

We made the bike path around the lake. The first part is full of people, but after the visitor center you are alone in the jungle. We encountered a cobra when we had to push the bikes in a small ascent. Only later did we see warning signs. On the road there was very little traffic. Sometimes the signalisation is... More

The lake itself is unique to the country, so that's why it is popular, but no better than a scenic lake anywhere.

My relatives took my husband and I to Sun Moon Lake 2 days ago. It was not crowded as some reviews indicated. Perhaps it was a weekday, and the weather was less desirable. We drove 3.5 hours from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake. Let me be direct. Coming from "Supernatural Vancouver, Canada", I was disappointed. This lake, although is very... More

We spent 2 days there. 1st day we went to the Formasan Aboriginal village and spent the entire day there (we bought the package ticket which includes the village + cable car + return bus ticket to/from Tai Chung). This place is quite interesting. Day 2 we just walked around part of the lake near the visitor center. The weather... More

This place is filled with mosquitoes! That's what I can remember! There is a small night market next to our hotel. Just go there for dinner and have a slow walk around the area before sleep time. No much crowd on the two nights when we were there. Either I don't know or there isn't much to do there.

An old friend and I and my spouse drove and hiked around parts of Sun Moon Lake (riyue tan) on Saturday (I had been there in student days) and found the setting beautiful as before. Thankfully, over the past twenty years the developers have not gotten a hold of the place and only a few new hotels have sprung up.... More

An amazing lake in the geographical center of Taiwan. The lake was damaged during the earthquake of Sept 21, but has since been restored to its former grandeur and beauty. The 'fiord' snakes through the valleys and form a beautiful scenic view. You can cruise on the lake, or cycle around the lake. Even after many visits, have never tire... More

We had a good time to visit tis well-known place, early January, not so many tourists! On the day of arrival to Sun Moon lake, We took all transportation kinds: plane, metro (Taipei city), High-speed train (Taipei to Taizhong), long-distance bus (Taizhong to Nantou), boat crossing the lake to Yida shao pier. Stay overnight is a fantastic idea to explore... More
