If you're in central Taiwan, then you must visit Sun Moon Lake. It's relaxing place to go. Remember to book a nice hotel with a lake view.

We went four days from the nearby Puli, just 20 minutes by bus. There are many things to do. Begining from the superpopular cycling, with many rental bike shops around for just TWD 100 per bike/day. You can ride through a 6 kms bike path that leads you besides the lake with spectacular views. It's really crowded in weekends. Also... More

Out of town scenic place to visit. Boat Cruise, Cable Car scenic ride and Peat Bog Experience is a must when visiting Sun Moon Lake. The Wenwu Temple was a great highlight as the architecture and design is amazing. However, do avoid during Typhoon season which is during September as it brings heavy rain and may hamper the visit

It is hard to predict the weather in Taiwan as it is an island. It can rain year round. You can come here as a day trip from Taipei by taking the high speed train to Taichung and then take the bus. You can take the boat ride to the island in the middle. There is a small temple on... More

There are several temples in the area, boat rides available, great views, visitor's center, and lots of food choices especially at the Indigenous Village.

It's hard to believe that this lake, nestled among mountains, is man-made. It's also amazing that one can feel some respite from the worries of the world (there is so much green, and so much space and peace!), but at the same time, find many touristy things to do (like eating street food and riding the boat across the lake... The lake is beautiful and the Xiangshan tourist centre near is highly recommended. It will be amazing to travel around the lake by bike. One point to note is that the shops/ restaurants there close rather early (restaurants may close by 8:30 pm) so you'd better wake up early during your stay at Sun Moon Lake. The people in the... Sun Moon Lake was crowded with Chinese tourist groups over the past eight years, but since earlier this year, much fewer of them came. Therefore, right now is a great time to visit Sun Moon Lake as many hotels and tour packages reduced the rates significantly and launched a variety of promotions. If you plan to come visit from Taipei,... More

I went there during the worst drought in the area and the lake had never experienced such low levels before apparently. Below 6 metres! But having said that I don't think if would've made any difference. Pros - the air quality is great for outside of Taipei for a start. Cons - Poorly planned. Too many tourists. Water not very...
