A beautiful beach near Tangalle with a few places to eat and drink. You can rent sun loungers here and it’s often free if you buy drinks or eat. If not, it’s around 1000 rupees. Tip…wherever you rent the lounger from is where you are expected to order food and drinks from.
The waves are deceptively high so be careful! There isn’t a lifeguard but the bar owners are helpful and friendly. One bar doesn’t have a food menu - the food is that fresh as it’s whatever they catch!
The dogs won’t bother you, they may sit under your lounger or the umbrella to keep cool.
This was a favourite part of our holiday.

We were staying at the attached resort so naturally we spent a lot of time on this beach. It’s a small but quiet beach that we found fun to swim in. The water is a bit rough but easy to get in and out. Very fun if you have a boogie board.
Only drawback were the local vendors set up here. It’s nice that they are there to serve cold beer (500 standard price) and provide a lounge chair and shaded place to sit. But the constant pushing for you to buy something, or fighting for your service is a turn off. The only vendor I found to not hustle you is to the very far right when you first enter the beach(faceing the ocean.) They seem to be the “new guys” on the beach and it shows.

Came back here for the second year as this is my favourite beach in the world. Although the waves are powerful the natural breakwaters lead to a wash that reaches 20 metres so everyone can get in. Swim further out and you have regular 3 m waves. Great fun. The beach bars, particularly Bamboo do juice, food and beer. I’ve travelled to Thailand, Malaysia, Africa and other countries and I love this beach. Perfect sand. The deserted beach at Rekawa is lovely but you cannot swim due to the rip-tides.

Excellent Beach with safe bathing and with supervised child friendly waves. Nice beach restaurants for refreshments and food to choose from. Even over Christmas and New Year not too busy.. Mainly because it's not accessible by tourist busses.

The Beach is nice enough, no doubt there! However, we witnessed how a girl passed out after eating at one of the places at the beach. They obviously thought she was alone, but her friend was just away for a couple of minutes. Hence, she luckyly only had to spend a night at the hospital and it turned out that she had been drugged.

This trip to Tangalle has left me scarred for life. The beach restaurant bar owner Indy drugged my drink, i blacked out and have no memory of what happened. The 4 star villa Maya Tangalle where i stayed recommended the bar, they even told me that the owner Indy is their friend. Can anyone tell me where i can seek justice for this?

The beach is wonderful but we got some knockout pills in our drinks. The staff in the bars looked very reliable and they were very lovely. Even if we were 4 peeps (3 girls and 1 guy) we got some drops in our drinks. they wanted to show as the turtles but all 4 of us felt asleep while waiting. We were very happy that nothing else happened. Even if we called the police the next day, we are sure that the big guy without hair, who's name is "Indi", and who gave us the drops, is still there... Take care!

I must admit the beach is really beatiful...we were 2 women travelling together and we both fell in love with it..small, still not crowded, peacefull for enjoying yoga, reading a book and having fun in the waves...but all this is overshadowed by harrowing experience and we just want to warn other girls...PLEASE, even the invitation to come for a coctail by the bonfire on the beach and to watch turtles ( from the owner and waitor of the restaurant on the left when facing sea) might sound great DO NOT ACCEPT IT AND STAY AWAY FROM THEIR DRINKS!!!! You might end up paying a lot for what otherwise could have been magical:(

There is no doubt that the location is is fabulous. However I would urge tourists to avoid Rock View on Goyombokka Beach and Emmalaya which Inder also owns. Inder has built his businesses on the back of theft, deception, bullying and intimidation of UK nationals and Sri Lankans. Behind the smiles you may see, are hidden fears and great losses. I've met him in both Sri Lanka and the UK, don't be fooled, stay well clear. Goyombokka is great, Inder is not, see what others have to say, have fun, enjoy the beach, sun and moonlight but don't get involved with this man under any circumstances.

Hi there - we (me, boyfriend and our nearly 6 year old son) are thinking about using Goyambokka Beach as a base to hang out at for a week and also use as a base to explore other beaches. One of the main reasons that we're considering this beach, besides the fact that it looks gorgeous, is that we're hoping the sea will be okay for swimming when we are there in late December i.e. small waves? Also wondering if it's easy enough to take day trips from Goyambokka to other beaches and sites? Thanks for your help! Alison

Hi! We visited Goyambokka in April with our 9 year old children and it is as beautiful as the pictures suggest.
We stayed at a little guest house a stones throw away from the beach. All in all the beach and surrounding area has a nice low key vibe and is great to chill at for a few days. Of all the beaches in Tangalle this was easily the safest to swim at in April. There was a bit of a rip and some medium sets coming in but manageable and not as gnarly as some as the other beaches which were no swim zones.
