Near the ticket office is the Royal Palace, a brick building, very impressive although not well preserved. The Royal Palace dates back to the dynasty of King Parakramabahu I (1153 – 1186). It is said that the palace contained 50 rooms spread over 7 floors. probably the upper parts were made of wood, lighter than the masonry.

I'm talking about the whole temple and shrine complex in Polonaruwa. If you like history and culture, this is your place.
At first you must buy the tickets in the museum, then you can explore the whole town. Be prepared to remove your shoes from time to time.

My Favorite place in Polonnaruwa. This was a old Palace and it was Seven stairs building. First three stairs builded using bricks and next four builded using wood.
Now days only available for see the first floor.and the part of the staircase still available. And I’ve seen the old attached toilet system in here.Very surprising.
Some of old original wall plasters still available and protected.
According to the guide who explained about this palace. It was burned by enemy army. Some of burned marks and lava stones still available.
Very wonderful place.
I love and definitely visit this place again.

The palace of King Parakramabahu, the Great. It is believed that the palace was 7 storeys high during its peak and glorious time, which housed 1,000 chambers. What is left is the 3 storeys high concrete of ruins. Still, it is majestic looking and it makes your imaginations run wild to think of how magnificent this palace was during the glorious days. One of the must-see site at Polonnaruwa Heritage site.

Weijantha Prasada is a part of Polonnaruwa and it represents ruins of the Royal Palace. Impressive building such a big palace in those days without machines!

Not much is left - just the stairway and part of the walls of what was once (about 12th century AD) the palace of King Vijayabahu in the capital of the second oldest kingdom of the island, the Kingdom of Plonaruwa. Apparently the building was seven stories tall back then, but now you can only see three stories high wall ruins... Small remains of the ancient glory...

This is one of the more interesting ruins you will see on your way around the ruins. This is the king's palace.

this was a 7 storey building once. It would have been very impressive. Let your imagination work and it is still just that.

Although the thick remaining walls of the once Royal Palace are impressive, and make a great photographic opportunity, there is very little to see. However, worth strolling to the nearby Audience Hall and Bathing Pool.

Interesting the sizes and shapes of these ruins, but other than that, not much to see. A lack of information or signage didn’t help.
