St Anthony's Church: Tryst with History
Jun 2018 • Family
One of the oldest churches in Kandy. If you have time it shows the old architecture of earlier times. If interested in Christian history may visit.

Colourful church with a lot of beggars
Jan 2018 • Solo
The yellow exterior is nice and the interior has some good pictures on the walls. There were beggars at the gates and then a guy chased me around demanding money for something so I ran out to get away from him.

It was good church with architecture of that era which was bygone
Dec 2017 • Friends
It is a lovely little oasis of peace in the middle of a very busy Kandy city. Take a moment to get your breath back in this tranquil church before braving the streets again.
It has a real devotion of the premises to immaculate (statue of the Virgin Mary and a local martyr). Opposite of the church, there is a charming snack, coffee and juice bar.
It was good church with architecture of that era which was bygone. Worth a visit if you have time in Kandy.
This could be a parish church in any English village but what made it so interesting were the memorial tablets in memory of the colonials who had died.
Even the Buddhists and some Moslems visit this church. St Anthony's Church is in the Kotugodella street adjoining the St Sylvester's College. It is open during the day.

I think the best part is that this Church is located right next to the Buddhist temples. It's so interesting to spot it here. Inside it's classical colonial church.
This place not only attract christian even Buddhist pay visit and prey in front of the god seeking their dreams and ambitions to come true surprisingly it works for us
Located in the Kandy town, the St.Anthony's Church is one of the oldest churches in Kandy.
I always enjoy visiting a catholic church in places we go. It shows history from its structure and tradition in its ceremony

We stumbled on this little place quite by accident, it's a lovely little oasis of peace in the middle of a very busy city. Take a moment to get your breath back in this tranquil church before braving the streets again.

Lovely church, well kept, daily masses
Jul 2017
I could see this golden painted 'cathedral' from my rooftop pod in Clock Inn Kandy. I met a good friend there, who had been at the Sunday mass.
Real devotion, the premises are immaculate (statue of the Virgin Mary and a lokal martyr). Opposite is a charming snack, coffee and juice bar: Seeta's 'Getmore' (cum novel homestay)

A very English church
Feb 2017 • Couples
This could be a parish church in any English village but what made it so interesting were the memorial tablets in memory of the colonials who had died. We were intrigued to learn that the person who greeted us on our arrival was a Buddhist and there were some Muslims visiting as well - a very ecumenical gathering.

St Anthony's Church is in a different street. It's on Kotugodalla street adjoining st Sylvester's College. Necessary amendments will have to be done.

Worth looking round
Jan 2017 • Couples
Worth looking round if only to read the histories on plaques commemorating the dead. Chunk of history and a reminder that times were tough and disease was rife.
