I visited Prasanna Gem Centre in Kandy, Sri Lanka, in August, and it was a very informative experience. The tour began with an introduction to the history of the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka, including a visit to their museum. The museum contains rare specimens showing different stages of gem development and a detailed model of a Sri Lankan gem mine, illustrating the hard work of the miners and the true value of the gems on sale.
The sales team was professional and knowledgeable about the jewellery and its construction and were able to direct us in choosing the right stone, from a range of high quality gem stones on display. They were also open to customization and designing jewellery pieces to our liking, which I felt added a personal touch to the service.
Overall, on my visit to Prasanna Gem Centre was a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the gem industry in Sri Lanka.

Cheaters guys !!! Don’t go here they cheat you saying it’s real diamond and sapphires we even tried to go back to them for return they’re rude and lied about the rates too . They’re priced over 10 times so we went back to return an expensive jewellery worth lakhs they only said we can give 50% back where do the rest 50% go when they sell it to others . money eating cheaters cheat tourists thinking they won’t come back even thought we went they treated us badly and not giving our money .

This is far from the truth as can be. Shameful how some people can write anything in malice.
We do not act rude and send people away. Been here many years. Have dealt with innumerable customers from all over the world. We have many returning clients and 2nd generations too.
We know customers can return anytime and we will still be here to receive them with pleasure.

They will show you film and do prep talk before trying to sell the stones 4-5 times more than their worth. Do not buy unless you have done your research and checked all other stores. and go with a trusted local (beware he will likely to mislead you also as he may have a cut from the shops he will take you to) who understand/knows the gems. I overpaid 5x the actual worth, cost me $8,000 loss. Also, do not buy unless there is an International Geological Lab (reputed, independent org) certificate (do not trust the papers that shop itself gives you - those worth nothing). They need to accompany you to Colombo to the testing center, and only upon getting that certificate should you pay. Even then, the price is likely to be 5x higher than you should pay, so go ahead and bargain the life out of them.

it was my first time visiting sri lanka, and our tour guide took us here. I had no plans of buying anything initially, and only visited because my friend was interested in gem and jewellery. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and insightful. Not only did we learn so much about gem stones, but all 5 in our group ended up buying a piece of jewellery or gem stone. to be safe, we got our stones tested from a trusted third party, who confirmed them as high quality, authentic, and one of a kind. This was an amazing experience. Truly worth the time and money. Hands down the best purchase I've made this year.

Okay. So I thought I must put this down in your trip advicer. I'm highly excited because today I found out, the Sapphire ring I purchased from you a year back is a little more than the double the the price I purchased it from you.

We visited the gem store whilst we stayed in Kandy. It was a great experience to walk around with the guide, who was extremely knowledgeable. My husband bought me a ring which was beautiful. I need also to mention that their customer service is second to non. The after care fantastic. We were treated so well which is what we experienced everywhere in our stay in Sri Lanka.

My tour guide took me there I have been trying to email you call you and no luck . What is your email I have pictures I need to send to you or will I post them so other buyers can see?? As my gem has gone from blue to clear . I will be contacting my tour guide and my bank if you don’t contact me in 24hrs . Why was I blocked from FB.

I had been to quite a few shops over 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and asked for a good store to get something before we left Kandy for home... we were taken here to Prasanna by our driver. The museum was interesting, but then the shop part was very disappointing- I knew what I was looking for and how much it should cost- immediately I knew I wasn’t going to find it here. The sales guy wanted double what anywhere else had asked for and the quality of sapphires were bad. Very pushy and obviously rely on tourists not knowing what they’re looking at and costs. We left right away and walked to a different shop near our hotel to avoid the extra commission costs drivers get when bringing people. Go to Isini Gems just up hill from the lake- they were fantastic, had great quality stones in a much better range and made me 2 rings overnight- staff were polite, professional and honest.

Unless you know your stones, beware of the shop. There is mixed feedback and I trusted my guide who recommended the place - big mistake. Sales person named Sunil told the blue sapphire I was about to purchase is natural and not treated with heat. I purchased it along with couple other stones. International Gemological Institute certified the sapphire to have been heat treated. Which means Sunil lied. I sent the lab certificates to Prasanna requesting refund but was met with complete denial.
If you really want to buy, only part with cash after National Gem and Jewellery Authority in Colombo certifies it (the jeweller must travel with you or can meet you in Colombo and pay for the certification). If jeweller says no, walk away. I didn’t have chance to do this as it was 31 Dec with Gem board closed.
My jeweller in Dubai said the blue sapphire worth a fraction of what I paid.
I do not recommend this shop. It relies on non-repeat customers - tourists and cheats here and there.

We are a Gem shop in the business for over 40 years. We have many clients from all over the world visiting us on a daily basis many of which are repeat customers. Unfortunately, not all of them take to public forums to write about their good relationship with us.
Clearly Ms. Saida has been mislead but not by us.

We went to Sri Lanka with a very reputable travel company and personal guide. He recommended this gem centre. There is a very interesting museum, film and gem area where you can learn a lot about the gems mined in Sri Lanka. The gems were expensive in this centre, but we weren't pressurised and the pink sapphire and diamond pendant purchased have been verified by a reputable jeweller in the uk as genuine and worth nearly twice as much as the amount paid in Sri Lanka.
