I went to Hemachandras with a Gate 1 tour group and expected to be followed around and harrassed to buy , my experience in India and China. . This store treats customers better! No pressure, one is free to walk around and look. I wanted to get an emerald-cut aquamarine ring and had so many to pick from. I bought an 3.49 carat aquamarine, which I love. the prices are amazing. I was helped by Arosh whom I recommend greatly. I wish I could have stayed longer. Each stone was explained to me, I chose one which has slight imperfections, but i loved the color best, and there was no pressure to make me buy a more expensive stone. My decisions were 100% respected. I highly recommend this store. They have the gold on the ground level, and the silver on an upper level, and customers re treated with great friendliness even if you buy nothing.

They must be the oldest Jewellers in Kandy. I Went here for a quick look at their museum and the factory and ended up falling in love with all the Jewelery they had and buying a pretty little sapphire ring.
The salesman was really knowledgable about gems and it really made me appreciate what I bought after knowing how hard it is to find them.
They even cleaned my old jewelry for free.

If you are looking to buy a piece of jewellery this is a government trusted shop in Kandy. On arrival for our planned visit we were met by Ravindra Manemendra who guided us around the workshop which was very interesting. I was able to take photos of the craftsmen who were friendly and happy to show their skill. We also viewed a short video of how semi/precious gems are mined, this was really interesting. We were also able to see how a stone gets faceted. After this we were guided into the shop which was large and luxurious. There is no hard sell but obviously this is how they make their business. The jewellery ranges vastly in price but you can negotiate a little. I bought a beautiful green tourmaline and had it made into a ring which was ready the next morning (£168), this I believe is the going rate compared to UK, it also has a genuine guarantee. It would have been nice if we had been offered a drink on our visit, perhaps this was forgotten!

Sujith and the staff of Hemachandras took great care with my wife and I during our visit. They started with a cup of tea followed by an informative film on Sri Lankan gem mining. Afterward we got a tour of the faceting, polishing and metalwork artisans at work. Then it was on to the showroom where everyone patiently showed us their fine collection of local stones. Their willingness to negotiate on prices was refreshing. They even stayed after closing hours as we decided on which stones we would end up buying. Overall, this was a great experience. As a gemologist, I can state with certainty this is a reputable and honest establishment whose mission is to make their customers happy.

I visited this place because our driver suggested that we would be able to see how gemstones are cut. First we were shown a short film (8 minutes) which shows different kinds of gemstones and how they are mined. Next we were taken to the sales area with different kinds of jewellery made from gemstones on display . The prices are in codes and you have to ask prices of each item. When I asked whether we were to see how gemstones are cut I got no reply from the person showing us.. I could see some other tourists being shown this.
I saw nothing here resembling a 'museum.' or 'gallery' although these words were displayed on a large sign
While in Kandy, I visited other jewellers and was able to compare prices of the items I had seen. The items here are priced much higher.
I felt that my time had been wasted as I had did not see what I really wanted to see.

We ended up at Hemachandras Jewellers after visiting several jewellers in Kandy. They were the only Jewellers with GIA certified gemstones and a GIA gemologist on site. They managed to find the exact sapphire we required and make the setting in just over two days and we even saw the setting being made. Great service, great price and did exactly what they said they were going to do.

To be honest wasn't looking forward to visiting the jewellers. We had a bad experience yesterday near Matale and thought this would be the same. Watched the demo video about mining and had a drink then were shown round the workshop. The gems were beautiful and salesperson was great. He wasn't pushy and just wanted to help. In the end we bought a necklace for a present for which I feel was good price. We got a receipt and a report for the necklace stating the type of sapphires and silver. I will been checking this with my jeweller on return to UK. Would recommend even if just for the information.

My partner and I visited here to look at gems for an engagement ring. Specifically for a yellow sapphire. We were served by Rooan (spelling may be incorrect).
We received the best service. He provided us with an great tour of their museum, took time and had a patience for all our questions regarding gems and was never pushy or forceful. We spent close to 2 hours there and left without buying aything. He held some items for us.

We came back the next day and he patiently attended to us and our need. We bought our engagement ring from them. It was set in a day and hand delivered to our hotel in Sigiriya.

This place have great service and good quality gems to choose from. I heard from others that they are more costly and other jewellers but I think it was worth every penny with such a great service!

THANK YOU!!

We did not have any expectations when our "driver" took us to this jeweller. We started with a video introducing us to gem mining. Thereafter, we requested to see the show rooms, which were very impressive in terms of size and choice. Our "sales-person" was very patient in explaining the various precious stones and gems found in Sri Lanka. He did a great job. Most of all a number of languages are spoken. From German to Russian, which exemplifies the great customer orientation found on these premises. The products are beautifully made and priced competitively. We will be back.
