A lovely fair trade shop on temple street. An easy to miss doorway opposite the temple, this shop has an upstairs filled with some really great souvenirs, clothing and homeware. We loved it so much we went twice!

I stumbled across this place and it had just what I was looking for after weeks of traveling with a minimal wardrobe...a loose-weave, white shirt of high quality at a fair price. When I learned about their mission, I knew it was fate. I wore the new shirt out the door and had no less than three compliments on it within the next few hours of walking around Kandy. Prompted by her whispering colleagues, a waitress at a cafe shyly asked if I am a famous actor. Such flattering attention normally eludes this middle aged man : ) It must be the karma of the fair trade shirt, I thought. I went back and bought another one.

An oasis in Kandy and a must shop. Not just because it's fairtrade, you can feel the Sri Lankan spirit which is a bit lost in the rest of this big city and it has really great articles to buy.

I read many good reviews about this Shop before, so after our visit to the Temple of the Tooth we happened to suddenly stand infront of the Shop very near the Temple. They have great fabrics, beautiful shirts, dresses, earrings, necklaces, little things and so on. In the end i got very nice earrings...and we had the pleasure to get into talking about "God and the world", like we say, with one of the men. As we needed to meet our Tuk Tuk driver somewhere in the Chaos of the parade, this extremely helpful and friendly man called the driver and helped us finding him. Thank you so much for everything: the beautiful earrings, the great talk and your help! All the best to you :-) I highly recommend to visit the shop, there's definitely something nice to find for everyone.

Though the shop closes earlier than usual if i compare it to the shops in Pakistan, still I made sure that we visit the next day.

The place is full of hand woven colorful material (cotton and silky as well), stitched and un-stitched both. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. And the place is housing not only wear-ables but also bed linen and other affordable presents. Very reasonable with the prices tagged.

This is basically a fair trade shop which has created job opportunities for some of the Lankan women. Thumbs up!

We visited here in November last year due to seeing the reviews on TA and weren't disappointed. It's a bit of a strange one to find as you think you must be in the wrong spot but one of the locals guided us up the stairs to this little oasis. The staff were lovely and very helpful but not too intrusive or pushy (if you want pushy then go to the market in Kandy!!!!). We picked up some lovely scarves (Christmas presents), place mats (for me) and small stuffed elephants (for the grandkids) and it was all extremely reasonable and well made. They wrapped everything up in tissue paper with a little bow and were interested to know how we had found them. When I showed them TA on my phone they were amazed and had big smiles of pride. I would definitely say this is a must if you want well made, ethical gifts that give something back to the community. A tick all round in my book.

The Selyn fair trade shop in Kandy is a place of calm and brilliant color, right across the street from the Temple of the Tooth. Bags, toys, clothing all produced under the fair trade principles. All the products are made with handloom materials, every stitch creating work for a woman somewhere on the island. I love their story, love their products!

Selyn is the textiles' heaven. Not only for the amount of products they have made from clothes but also for the quality of its textiles. All handloom - handmade textiles-, beautiful and traditional colours plus modern designs for clothes and accessories. In addition, they have a wide range of home deco clothes of great quality and beautiful style as well as sarees and sarong to fall in love with. Must visit in Colombo, Negombo, Kurunegala or Kandy.

I hoped to pick up some natural material/ hand made products but i was in and out of the shop in less than 10 minutes. Designs and patterns were very similar to shops like Fabindia in India. The prices were similar or more expensive. Didn't feel any item was worth buying from the store since it was nothing uniquely sri lankan to an Indian buyer in that store.
However, for customers outside of Indian subcontinent it must definitely hold value.

Selyn is a fair trade shop which has a huge variety of beautiful goods made locally. Do support the local textile industries. There was a large variety of goods for the table, floor, toys, clothes, knicknacks. The staff were helpful in every way.
