Sri Dalada Maligawa (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාව) or The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple.

The temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is one of the holiest shrines in the entire Buddhist world.

This was a religious trip with my family of two kids and one teenager. This temple is a very sacred place and is very peaceful. Tranquil surrounding. Would definitely visit again!

Great place to visit but sometimes you can see crowded people sometimes you won't see much people, the main part of the city overlooks a scenic artificial lake built by the last king of Kandy 1806. Near the lake is the temple of the tooth. Our tour to Kandy was organize by Asyatours. Thank you !!

The temple had a very nice and calm vibe. It was very orderly, and neat and clean. There was chanting going on.

I visited this wonderful temple post noon. A serene place that fills you with peace. I missed seeing the sanctum sanctorum as I went in the afternoon, so it would be better to check the timings before you visit. The visitor charges are high for non Sri Lankans. I was also given to understand that the place gets crowded during... More

Go at dusk and listen to the wonderful chanting and exit as the sun has gone down and the lights around the temple and moat come alive..magical and mystical all rolled into one.

Temple is really interesting even for non Buddhists. Beautifully maintained. Best to visit out of main worship times when less crowded. Take sock to protect your feet. Requires significant stair climbing so not suitable for those with mobility disability.

Temple of the Tooth. A must see, but crowded. We arrived on one of the "holy days" apparently, and the place was packed. Alot of pushing and people rushing to get in there. Nice temple and architecture, but ALOT OF PEOPLE.

This is a temple well worth a visit! Be prepared with a descent outfit, men and women will be thouroughly checked! There are a lot of "guides" in front off and on the temple grounds. They can be a bit pushy, so either pick one or be resolute in refusing! The temple and the surrounding grounds are quite impressive, especially... More
