Sri Dalada Maligawa (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාව) or The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple.

The temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is one of the holiest shrines in the entire Buddhist world.

Your visit to Sri Lanka is not worth if you don't visit the temple of the tooth relic of Buddha in Kandy. Kandy is the most beautiful city in Sri Lanka. Annual pageant or Perahara end of July and first week of August of 10 days is the largest festival in south Asia with over 100 elephants.

This is a world Heritage site. It is believed that Buddha's tooth is kept here in a stupa . Very wonderfully maintained , it's a pleasure to go around and see beautiful architecture and lots of historical stuff . The shrine inside which the tooth is kept is out of the world to watch .

We visit the temple at the end of the day, all locals advice to go there at 17.30 to see the 18.15 ceremony (every day) and is really worth. The place is beautiful and with this ceremony even better. I think it turned our visit there special otherwise I think that it wouldn't be. Go there at the end of... More

If you are in Kandy then this is a must visit. Very clean and peaceful. Construction is different from other temples and palaces. Guide is not needed, attire has to be covered knees and hands.
