Some Guides and Drivers could try to recommend you another batik shop by saying that my shop is closed today or difficult to find, etc;. Please do not believe such people. Please call me or use Google map to find my store easily. My shop is situated inside the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Kandy Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please call me or get a free call from the shop which is next to mine as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within next 20 minutes. Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

Have a reservation personally(not tuk tuk drivers) with the store one day before you come. You will be willing to spend two hours talking to the artist about stories, wisdoms and religion. It's a deep travel that I have ever had. The products are not cheap but it's worth having great stories and meanings in the products.

I visited Sri Lanka many years ago and liked the Batiks noted in several of the craft stores. After retirning from international work this year I remembered these Batiks and went on line and found Jayamali Batik Studios. I ordered a large custom Batik for mounting onto a wall to my living room in a new house I recentely purchased.... More

I came to the Jayamali Batiks Studio in Kandy after reading the rave reviews about it. I can confirm that the reviews are quite justified and true! I bought two bird scene batiks which were exceptional: I plan to frame them under glass and hang them in my living room. The owner of the store is very friendly and honest... More

This shop is THE place to buy an authentic and high quality Batik. CJ runs the shop and is extremely friendly and helpful. He explained to us in detail the process of making these batiks and you really appreciate the hardwork and creativity behind each one. I highly recommend visiting and even if you dont buy one its worth the... More

The studio offers a peek at at the art of making Batik and also retails the same. Its exciting to watch the fabric beingmade, dyed but bit expensive to buy here

The owner was most helpful and after my initial enquiries sent me a text explaining he may be late opening due to heavy traffic. A wide selection of modern and traditional work in wonderful colours. Much wider range than I had seen else where. Helpful informative owner. Seek out the place, it took me two attempts to find it.

The owner of the shop was very friendly and willing to negotiate good prices for us. He was very knowledgeable and did not seem like he was trying to rip us off like some of the batik shops we encountered in Sri Lanka. I would highly recommend this store for anyone interested in batiks.

Jayamali Batiks is a "must" for connoisseurs of art. The batiks vary from the "traditional elephant" to the more modern "sea of fishes". You are spoiled for choice, given the intricacy and neat finish of the final paintings. After much indecision, I bought a set of birds in batik in modern design. CJ is both a skilled artisan and host.... More
