Towers above Kandy City

I did not go to the top of the hill in Kandy where the statue is located and only saw it from my hotel which was on another hill in Kandy. It towers above the city

After visiting many temples and historic sights we came upon this place and we must say we were not let down. Depending on what time of day you go it does get very busy. We were slightly annoyed by sellers and hawkers but just a nice no thanks and they should leave you alone. Whilst there you must buy a... More

When we arrived a man in a shack told us to leave our shoes with him. I told him not to worry as we had a plastic bag however he told us the temple was sacred and no shoes were allowed inside. He was very adamant that a plastic bag/carrying them was not good enough. We left our shoes with... More

I went after sunset up to the Buddha statue and you can go there anytime. No entrance fee is required , just for the shoe storage a small fee! The location is beautiful, one can climb up almost to the top of the statue and the view over Kandy is great! The enclosed monastery is open to visitors and everyone... More

Here you pay for the entrance, not spensive but its just the budha to see really. Is it ok. Better get a tuktuk to go uphill over 300 rp.

The statue and temple do not worth a visit. However there is a beautiful view over the Kandy city. So if you have a little bit of time to kill in Kandy this could be one of the spots to tick off the list

Take a tuktuk from Kandy for 150-250 Rs up to the statue (otherwise it's bit of a climb). Apart from the statues and great views over Kandy, there's not much to see. The entrance fee was 200Rs/person with an extra 100Rs for leaving shoes for safekeeping. Definitely worth a visit.

Compared to most temples/buddhas this one was very quiet (in sept) it wasnt on our itenerary but we decided to check in later and visit more of kandy. The views from herw are great you can even climb up the steps at the back of the buddha. One of my favourite spots so far

The best (and only) thing about this place is the view from the city. Place itself is barely standing, dirty and with thousands of baggers around
