Lovely way to wind down for an hour - other than for tuk tuk drivers
Very pretty walk of around an hour. Nice to stop for an ice cream and admire the lake dwellers (a variety of birds, water monitors, turtles, carp). Sadly, as foreigners, we were stopped every 10 steps for a tuk tuk, etc. takes the joy out of it really. Also the pavement is treacherous in places as the (magnificent) tree roots have significantly lifted the sidewalk in many places.

Beautiful Sunset Stroll at Kandy Lake
I recently took my clients for a leisurely walk around Kandy Lake, and it was an experience to remember! The serene ambiance, coupled with the breathtaking sunset views, made it a perfect outing. The tranquil surroundings provided an ideal setting for meaningful conversations with my clients. Don't forget to try when you are in Kandy. It added an extra layer of delight to our experience. Whether you're a local or a visitor, a stroll around Kandy Lake during sunset is an absolute must-do!

    Kandy Lake
The Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is indeed a picturesque and serene spot in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Created in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, it serves as a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling city. The lake’s lush surroundings, charming island in the center, and the historical and cultural significance it holds make it a favorite among both locals and tourists. Walking around the lake, with its scenic views and peaceful ambiance, truly adds a touch of glamour and tranquility to the vibrant city of Kandy.

    Wonderful view from the top
Kandy is the „mountain-capital” at an altitude of 490 metres. In the centre there is a long artificial lake. We first saw it from the top, from the lookout point, but then walked past it and looked at the beautiful and tranquil villas.

    For A Leisurely Walk
I exited the Queens’ Bath and began a nice, leisurely walk on the Kandy Lake promenade. One of the noticeable bits is the number of ducks, egrets, herons and ibises here. The nicest part to walk along the Lake is the area around the Sri Dalada Maligawa because the other parts are right on the road with heavy traffic.

    Easy stroll, dirty lake
Easy stroll round the man made lake. It's so dirty I found it hard to enjoy. Beware of tuk tuk drivers who want to sell you tours (taking you to scam shopping places)

From the the descriptions on here,we were expecting a tranquil stroll around a beautiful lake,I’m afraid I was disappointed ,at least half the walk is along a main thoroughfare for traffic in Kandy, with horns sounding and choking fumes and engine noise meters from the pavement, the lake is fairly unremarkable to look at.
There are Ducks and lots of massive carp and we saw an enormous bloated monitor lizard so there is undoubtedly wild life.
I love the outdoors but not an experience I would want to repeat, certainly wouldn’t travel far to see it.

A beautiful lake that is totally man made we were told. Vendors on the lakeside are selling items that are given as offerings in the nearby temple of the sacred tooth. If you drive up the hill, you get a very good view of not only the lake but of the city as well.

We visited this lovely artificial lake before we went to the see the Temple of the Tooth. It was built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe and is located next to the Temple of the Tooth. It has a nice island in the middle that has a garden on it.

It is lovely to walk around the lake in the evening and there are lots of marble benches that you can use to appreciate the view.

A little piece of semi tranquility to walk the approximate 5000 steps around the paved Kandy Lake path. See many birds, ducks and even a lizard.

There is a white building along the path that is free admission and offers historical and interesting information of the area.

A must do activity in Kandy, especially if you like walking and photography! Many marble benches along the way to rest.

The Kandy Lake is in the heart of the city. There is paid parking near by. The walking path along the beautiful lake is wonderful. The view of the lake on one side and The Buddha temple on the other have a real calming effect

This lake is the center of attraction if you are visiting Kandy. There is a walkway around the lake for walkers and runners and multiple attractions around the lake including the Temple of the sacred tooth relic. I walked in the morning and took some pictures.

Hi visited here after going to the Ceylon tea museum. Our tuk tuk driver drove us around the lake and we stopped to take pictures. We will be visiting again this evening so we can take a leisurely stroll after dinner. Really nice. Worth a visit.

Nice place in tropical Kandy.
Good for a walk or watch the wildlife (fish, birds etc.)
Most of the main attractions in Kandy are around the lake so this is the heart of the town (former royal capital).

We stayed 2 full days at Kandy, had a very good Tuktuk driver who was honest and nice, highly recommended. His name is Sanka ( mobile: 075 045 2686)

The lake was very good, fascinating view and good for a walk. Just don’t go there on a Sunday cause it will be crowded since it’s the city’s day off.
