Hantana would love to see the hiker in the morning and the mountain changes moods by the mid afternoon. So the ideal time is morning hours. Might need 5 hours for the feel and no its no place for rushing. Entire right hand side face of the range is an unending line of steep, near vertical heights where path is lined by tall grass making it unclear how close the edge is. Scenery is fantastic with clear 360 degree views of a big part of the hill country. Ascent via the Uduwela road entrance [main entrance] is advisable. The other access paths can easily get covered with markers unidentifiable with just a few week of inactivity in those trails. Dehigama trail was mostly vanished at the upper reaches when we were there in July. Hantana would require us to come iwth a guide if we are to try the other trails except the main path from Uduwela road. Take plenty of water. There are no streams along the way to fill up. Even the folks at the communication towers are also short of water so best not to trouble them. Walk slow we need to be because the entire trail is highly uneven.

Beautiful scenery once you are up
You can reach there using public transport, no need to pay anything to anyone.
This is straight hike so care about it. There is no anything on the top like water or food. So make sure to bring water.
But make sure to bring back everything what you used like bottles, plastic bag, etc.

Went for a quick hiking with my friend who is working in Kandy. He already visited this mountain and I wanted to go there as well. Started about 1100 and reach the top after 2 hours. This is a moderate hiking which is not that hard. Take water as much as you can and one meal. Nice view on the top.

Typically a mountain gets its branding for one thing in particular. Hantana has it all- tropical canopy, pine forest, creeks, savannah, rocks, complete solitude along most of the trail, and finally the view .Its no hard climb and could be attempted by a team of teens with less worry. However the lack of a definitive trail makes it necessary to obtain services of a guide or some one who has done the climb before. Hantana provides such amazing views of much of the hill country on a clear day ,from Kandy town below to Adams Peak in the distant horizon.Climb down gives few options -either descend to Peradeniya side or keep walking down to the road on the opposite .an wait for the bus to Kandy or just walk down the lovely road about 4km to the town.

Hey Man, im planning to go on Camping @ Hanthana. just want to know do we need to get permission from the wild life department to camp over there?
Written June 11, 2018
Hello, you don't need to take any permissions from Wildlife or any authority. but you better to inform to Peradeniya University Explorers club that you are going to camping there. because it is a heritage of Sri Lanka and there are several restrictions to be followed as a Campaigner. If you need any instructions i can help you. Thanks.
Kind Regards
Thiraj
