About
The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. The Kandy Lake Club Dance started in 1982 with the view of having a cultural dance performance bringing together all Sri Lankan dance types to one platform. It is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka. It has since become a tourist attraction for many people visiting the country and keen on a glimpse of its rich cultural heritage. Hence it has been performing continuously for the last 35 years. Dance techniques unique to areas of the island are usually passed on from generation to generation. These Dances are performed at local ceremonies and rituals using drums and costumes that are unique to each area. Among the attractions are the Dances depicting the majestic walk of the elephant, colourful performance of the peacock and the mystical movements of the cobra.

Came across the Kandy Lake Club while researching on the Things to do while in Kandy. We booked tickets on the spot.Cost per ticket was 1250 LKR. The show starts at 5.30pm and lasts for about an hour. There are about 13 dance forms which are performed..each one more mesmerizing than the previous. We loved every bit of it.Must visit!

I would say by far this is the best show I ever attended. Oh my god it is one hour full of enjoyment plus most talented dance acrobats you would ever see.
They have about 12 dance items and end of the show they let you to go out side of the theatre and enjoy the curtain close of the show which is firewalking. It was one of the highlights of the show.
This one hour entertainment you would get less than $10 which in any other country it would be at least 5 times of it.
I definitely recommend this to all ages and before end of your life time you should watch this KANDY LAKE CLUB show which I heard this is the best in Sri Lanka.

The location of the dance added to its overall ambiance. You had to take a number of twists and turns on a hill to actually reach the club. The overall dance was amazing! We witnessed many Sri Lankan dance types such as Magul Bera, Puja Natuma, Devol Natuma etc. Each dance was unique. The ticket was SLR 1250 per person (no refunds) and you could book online, over the phone, or in person. The timings were 5:30 PM onwards. The seating arrangement was good and there was a mini snack bar that served drinks as well. You will also see a fire dance towards the end of the show which was very cool.

A must visit if you visit Kandy.

I have heard a lot about the show but this was the first time to see it. I contacted a gentleman call Mr.Sameera, Assistant Manager, who was very friendly to accommodate my request and reserved the seats for my family!

We went around at 17:00hrs, the location was breathtaking, located near to the Kandy Lake, so free from the busy city! Ample parking space! Lovely reception ladies to welcome and provide information to us! Mr.Dammika, the Manager, who came and greeted us, then took us to the theater and made us very comfortable. I realized for them there are no traffic jams along the extra mile!

The show started at sharp 17:30hrs. It is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance, and cultural heritage show, this is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy.

The flyers provided to us in our own language about the dances were useful.

The set is perfect!

The cast is WOW!

Such stunning and breath taking costumes and set this show is a must see.

Beverage and snack bar was great for to go in the interval and beforehand!

The juggling, the acrobatics, the dancing and the fire walking were all perfect!

From start to finish the whole show is amazing!

I've wanted to see this show for many years and finally get a chance and it does not fail!

I was disappointed only when it ended!

The staff in the theatre wonderful, helpful and very spirited. The performance was flawless. The special effects are brilliant. Some of the performers were extremely talented. Well worth the time to view and enjoy culture, colorful costumes, and their energy and for the great finale of firewalking and fire eating!

My daughter was dancing to the drummers and other guests were taking some snaps of her, as I remember, took my daughter her first trip to any theatre show and it did not fail! Thank you so much. Deserves every accolade it has and more!

Once again many thanks to Mr.Sameera & Mr.Dammika!

Absolutely Amazing show - great performance!
I would certainly recommend a trip to see it if you've never been! 👍

We absolutely loved this! We went a few hours early via tuk tuk to select a seat near the front and purchase our tickets prior to the show starting. Would recommend doing this and then arriving 10 minutes before the show starts to get a drink.

Absolutely amazing dance show! The dancers and musicians are so talented and you are provided with a programme which tells you exactly what each dance represents. The best experience, we would 100% recommend!

The Kandy Lake Club Show was entirely mesmerizing, we enjoyed it. Sri Lanka culture was on display in dance and music ! The show lasts an hour. We had read about the show online, read the good reviews, and booked our seats online but chose the second row seating; recommend to book online and get the front row as the hall seating is on one level so seating even in the 2nd row we could find the tops of the people in front row in our camera frame as we clicked of the dance proceeding on stage! The show has no formal introduction on stage, the curtains fall apart and the show begins. But provided is a handy sheet with information on each dance show for the evening, the history and meaning of each presentation. Drinks and snacks are available on order at the seats itself, attendants are circulating for orders. That’s it Sip on your favourite beverage, set your glass of wine or beer or juice on the ledge in front of you and just enjoy the spectacle of the Lake Show. The performers are wonderful, making eye contact, and will entertain you.

The show exceeded our expectations! Dance, drumming, fire walk show, all great! Even our quite small children (5 and 2,5 yrs old) liked it a lot. I recommend booking the tickets in advance and secure front row seats as the seating is not leveled like in the cinema. The show doesn´t have any intro as to what is going to be performed but they provide written programme (in several languages including Slovak) explaining what the particular dances are about. There´s quite a small parking place so it´s better not to come by car (or come early like we did). What was quite surprising, you can have some drinks from the bar at the venue. Overall, very good experience!

We watched a late afternoon performance at the Red Cross Hall, just a bit past the Temple of the Tooth. We were provided with a program. A conch shell was blown to start things. There was drum beating throughout. There were a number of dances, the male and female performers in colourful costumes. One of them involved plate spinning. Back flips featured in another segment. At the end of the dance segment we rose for the performers to sing the national anthem. Some rows in the audience then went on stage in advance of two male fire eaters, some members still in the audience cringing as fire was passed over their arms and mouths, the chaps smiling away. The grand finale was fire walking over hot coals, lighter fluid added for extra effect. It was a most entertaining hour and very inexpensive at 1,000 rupees. The ubiquitous tips box came out at the end, very much deserved.

We really enjoyed this show having been booked tickets by our hosts at Hill Cottage.
Cost per ticket was 1250. The show was lively and exuberant with great costumes and the programme notes were very informative. There was also a bar and a surprise finale!

High energy cultural music and dance show. Great hour of entertainment. Had everything including fire walking across a bed of hot coals. The female dancers were graceful, beautiful and colourful. The male dancers were very athletic and energetic. The musicians provided the beat and rhythm. Well worth the money. The only problem we had was finding transport back to our accommodation. The tuk tuk driver who took us home was rude and abusive and wanted a lot more money than we paid to get there. It would be good if the management of the Kandy Cultural Show could include pick up and drop off in the price of a ticket.

Dear Kim R, Thank you very much for visiting us while you were in Kandy. We really appreciate your great review , amazing described about our show and the recommendation. We will concern about our minus facts that you have mentioned in your review. As we are a private firm we mostly give our premises to access any taxi drivers in Kandy. That's why mostly we are not providing any transportation to the city. But anyway we really appreciate your point and we will look into it soon. Finally our Lake CLub team is grateful for you for the above review. Have a nice day Thank you ,
