One of the major Hindu temples in Sri Lanka. People from all religions visit here without a division. Temple is very big that you have plenty to see inside. Men are required to remove their top clothing to enter the temple. No any restrictions for women. No photos inside. Dress accordingly as this is a religious place.

As non Hindu one must observe the rituals and rules when entering I.e. remove your shoes at the gate entrance. Wash your feet. Before entering the temple. There was a lot of prayer and enlightenments to the gods. No photography allowed inside.a spectacular temple and a must visit

This is supposed to be a very old temple but there is nothing ancient to be seen. Every construction is modern, with cement and bright gaudy colours that do no justice to the history of the temple. Men have to remove their shirts in order to enter which detracts from the spirituality of the area and is not a pleasant experience when it gets busy during the pooja times. The temple priests seem to be quite standoffish. There needs to be more information for the tourist or non-Hindu visiting. Beware the beggars and at the entrance who will not take no for an answer. Good for a quick visit but can be easily skipped in favour of nicer attractions in the Jaffna peninsula. .

This temple pales in comparison to the great Hindu temples of South India. It is a poor imitation, bereft of the grandeur, majesty and spirituality of its cousins in India. The local Tamil people are also quite unfriendly (a consequence of the long war perhaps?), without the usual smiles common in the rest of Sri Lanka. The temple seems like a tourist trap. Unfortunately, cannot recommend visiting until the experience changes.

A large beautiful temple with monumental brightly-painted ornate towers. But I am not sure why they are building another tower. The money could be spent on other charitable social programmes.

Honestly, there is no point in going out of one's way to visit this temple. It may have some sentimental value to Tamil Hindus, but for non-Hindus it has nothing much to offer; you will see the same thing if you went to a Hindu temple in Colombo or anywhere else in the country. The only thing here is that males have to remove their shirts to enter, which is a silly rule to impose given that it is not followed elsewhere. The red and white stripes everywhere on the walls reminded me of candy cane. If you want a more psychedelic temple visit the one on Nainativu island which is painted in every colour imaginable.

This is a beautyful place, I have visited this temple many times.

during festival times or during non festival times it is great for the soul.

At festival time is when you can really see the temple working, the cogs and gears grinding in motion, its amazing.

the men pulling the thaer/chariot, the faithfull following behind, the dancing, the singing, the noise, the colour, the smell, amazing!

If you visited Hindu temples in South India like Madurai Meenatchi Amman, Srirangam, Thanjavur Kovil, this temple not impressive. But in SriLanka this temple one of the beautiful and most respected by the Hindus. Still they maintain the old culture here - to enter the Kovil all males want to remove their shirts etc-. Pooja time bit of crowded. Kovil is so called ancient, but can't see any signs! Other big menace is the beggars. Really a temple like this can make some jobs for them and keep them occupied. If the management of the temple start with some plans, every devotees will be donate. Evening time sit on the sand in front of the temple and eating some roasted peanuts is relaxing experience!
