1500 rupees and a tiring climb up the mountain with garbaged surroundings reveals several dark and neglected caves with several modern / repainted Buddha statues. Unless it has a strong religious meaning for you, skip save your time for more interesting places in the area

We went to this cave temple not really knowing what to expect. And still we were disappointed. With the costly entrance, we did expect the place t be cleaner. We are nu culture buffs but still were unimpressed. take a backpack so you can take your shoes with you and for women have some cover for the legs or you... More

The entrance fee of 1.500 Rps. is at least too expensive for what you see. The outlook from the hill is nice and free of charge.

This place is total garbage. Plastic bottles and other garbages all over the place. It is a total disrespect for Buddha and for the visitors compared to the expensive amount paid (10$ ticket entrance, same price as the Louvres museum)

It's a climb. but worth it, even if you have to fight against the stream of locals that go there over the holidays. Cover up....

It was quite a hike to the top of mountain in hot weather, but temple itself was really worth seeing it. Take some old socks with you, as you need to take off shoes entering temple territory, but the pavement is really hot.

There are two sites listed in TripAdvsisor for Dambulla. One is listed as #1 destination and labeled Golden Temple, the #2 destination being called the Cave Temple. This is unduely confusing as there is only one site. Furthermore the image provided for the Golden Temple is an image from the cave at the top of the hill with a stupa... More

We are talking about caves century I bC which is amazing!! You have 650 steps until the top but it will worth it. Do not forget to dress properly because it's a temple.
