A small cave temple worth 10-15 mins short visit prior climbing up to the top of Pidurangala Rock. The entrance of the temple was built in 1931, but the cave temple was back then since more than thousand years ago where the temple was built by the King resided at nearby Sigiriya Rock, as meditation place for the monks. Appropriate attire is required and no shoes are allowed. LKR500 entrance fee included to climb up to the top of Pidurangala Rock.

Only LKR1000 to enter this temple and climb compared to the higher priced Lions Rock. I would say this is probably a better climb through the jungle and then scramble up the rocks once you’ve past the Buddha. Not for the faint hearted that bit.

Chose to climb here instead of the madness that is Sigiriya. The last 5 minutes is challenging but the views are stunning and you get to see Sigiriya all at a fraction of the price and a fraction of the crowds. This place has no touts, it's just pure and simple. Well worth and and very enjoyable!

Decided to climb the rock with kids (6 years and 3.5 years) and 4 adults. The climb is average and towards the end the climb was bit difficult. Also, as we went during the school holidays on a weekend it was crowed. But manged to climb to the top and the view was amazing. Can have a nicer view of the famous rock Sigiriya and the surrounding. It was so worth the climb. Even the path leads to the top is nice with trees (or the jungle). A must do trip.

1km from sigiriya rick you can go to this cave temple (hiharaya). Once you climb the pidurangala rock you will come across this. This is old as 1-2 BC, but this was properly built by king kashshapa (473-495 AC). The place was a buddhist monastery. According to the history king kashshapa requested the monks to move to this place as he wanted to build sigiriya. This is just as very small version of dambulla cave temple.
