Vessagiriya Ruins is a very nice place to visit during your visit to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Located about 1 km away from the ancient temple of Isurumuniya which has the world famous "the lovers" carving in rock with so many other attractions, Vessagiriya is a totally different experience. It is a calm place and it is an ideal place for any visitor interested in practicing medication to relieve the stress of modern day life. It is also a very nice place to walk and relax as well. So, can be recommended as a must go place for some kind of visitors who like nature and nature walks and especially for those who wish to meditate.

Vessagiriya Ruins comprise several boulders, niches and caves used centuries ago as a religious site. Located on a low hill, it’s good for a 20-minute walk-around. The general area is very serene and green with rice paddies as neighbours. The edge of Tissa Wewa lake is not more than 300 metres away along a dirt road.
Although Vessagiriya is listed among the sights of the “Sacred City”, it is 1.5 to 3 km distant from most of the other sites and you'll have to go out of your way to see it. It is outside the paid area; thus no entry fee required. But then again, no facilities e.g. toilets.
General info about places in the “Sacred City/Ancient Ruins” park: The sights are quite spread out such that while walking from one sight to the second may be possible, covering many more on foot is impractical. You’ll need a map and a bicycle or tuktuk hired for the day.
