We have been in Ram Fortress in 2014. It was a nice visit part of a road trip through the region with the Silver Lake (Srebrno Jezero), Golubac and Derdap. In 2019 we came back. Now the fortress is totally different. It has been renovated, there is a guide and there is much more explanation.

Maybe it is even too beaufifully restorated. But it gives a better idea how the fortress has been in the past. Now we have been in the evening. Next time we want to come at sunset.

Since my last visit two years ago, Turkish state agency TIKA has started a massive restoration project of the fortress; it should be over in 2019 and therefore the fortress is closed for visits. Currently, the entrance tower is under scaffolding, while it seems that the works on the rest of the walls have been finished. Judging by the the views from the nearby church and from the Danube shore, it seems overrestored (or, to say more precisely, built anew), so it resembles more to film set than a medieval monument.

The only restaurant at the the shore of the Danube "Kod tvrđave" (At the Fortress) has lowered significantly its standards: the fish stew was too sour and contained too little fish, boiled potatoes and carrot accompanying the catfish steaks were cold, while the salad was full of cook's hairs. Only the coffee was OK. Not to mention the inadequate choice of noisy music (or, rather a radio show) which has completely ruined the peaceful atmosphere of a late summer afternoon on the shore of this majestic river.

Such an amazing view you can find here. You will feel like a sultan if you climb up and watch how amazing and stunning Danube is from here. This is lonely place you just can't miss if you are coming to eastern Serbia.

Situated on Danube river, hard to reach if you have no car. It is worth of every pain when you see the sight. It stands on the cliff, you can enter if you fallow steepy road on the left. Just be carefull, because stones can be unstable and slippery. When you enter the tower you have the great view on the Danube river.

First, let me start by saying, Ram fortress is a place I gladly go often. No matter how many times I have been there, Im always happy to return. So, I have been there more than 10 time, been as solo traveler, been as a couple, with friends and family.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ram fortress is old Turkish fortress situated on the Danube river, east of Belgrade. Its somewhere around 120 km from Belgrade, looking at most common route. And there we come to first important topic, the ROUTE.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Route: Most common route for visitors coming from Belgrade is taking the high-way, getting of for Pozarevac and than take a road to Veliko Gradiste. If you use Google Maps as your navigation at some point it will lead you, after you pass Pozarevac, via village of Klicevac. *dont use this direction due the bed road conditions. Continue toward Veliko Gradiste, and prior to entering Veliko Gradiste you will have a road sign for Ram Fortress. Use the same route on your return.

For those that want to experience more :) You can go from Belgrade to Banatska Palanka from where you can take a ferry across Danube. Ferry is operated on a regular basis (bad weather, rough rive etc.. can stop ships) by Dunav Trans
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ram fortress is a small fortress but view of Danube is breath taking. Sure it personal opinion But I think you will like it also. Fortress itself was adapted with support of Turkish TIKA agency. What can also be interesting in Ram is if you visit it in the afternoon, with enough time to wait for Sun going down. Fortress has several level which are not accesible by elevator etc. but only steps. But persons with disabilites can visit lower level.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Danube is not widest in this area, but its pritty wide :) Fortress, by my opinion is good location to visit, mostly because of its position in relation to Danube river. People that work on site will offer you possibility of tour, as well as materials about fortress and local attractions.

Beautiful views, well renovated 😃

Tip: no nearby cafes, so bring water if you’re planning on a longer stay (though you really need up to 30 minutes here, so it’s all good)

We came to fortress and we were pleasantly surprised.

Everything was reconstructed and open for tourists. We could notice that in future there would be tickets to go into the fortress, but for now visits are free. From this place you can see nice scenery including Danube river.
Near the river, there is a ferry boat which could give you a lift to another side of shore. Also, there is a nice place where you could buy nice coffee and enjoy the scenery.

This place I recommend for everybody who is interested in exploring Serbia.
