Great natural park, but too foggy day
National Park Tara is a great natural place located in Western Serbia, just close to the border with Bosnia-Hercegovina. It is a natural place full of hikking paths, canyons, cliffs, lookouts or Tara River. Really is a wonderful natural zona to stay, at least, one day. Pitifully, we visited this region at the end of October and each day was a too foggy day, so when we came here we could not see nothing, only fog. We could not to walk, to see lookouts or the River and mountain. Really, we hope to return here and see the Natural Park (we stayed some years ago in the Tara National Park in Bosnia zone and it is wonderful (without fog ;-)). Before enter in the park, we had breakfast in a little town just before the entrance to the park, in Drinska Pica Restaurant. It was excellent, we ate local food and we liked it very much!

    Beautiful nature and view!
I would recommend leaving a whole day for this! Tara is huge and there are several main points where you could start discovering it. We came super late and didn't even plan our trip here, it happened spontaneously, so we didn't had a lot of time. We rented two quads for 4 of us and went to the kanyon. For 1.5 hours we payed 50 EUR per quad. It was great and the view on the top is amazing! I would love to visit other parts as well, like the lakes. Just have in mind that it is hard to find the starting point, when you search for the "national park Tara", the path just drives you to the center of the wood. 😂 So investigate before going and search for a specific place in order to find it easily on maps.

    Peace and beauty
One of the most beatifup places in whole Serbia. Pure nature, peace and silence, fresh air, kind of wild spirit all around. For me great also because there isn't a lot of commercial stuff like in Zlatibor or Kopaonik. You can enjoy walking, hiking, climbing, or just driving through national park. Really great place, with couple of great points with amazing view on lake and river, totally gonna return here.

Beautiful nature, clean air, green lakes, warm people. When you want to escape from dirty and crowded cities, Tara is the best place where you can find silence, peace and freedom. The sound of singing birds is so relaxing.

You won't find a more comfortable stay anywhere else! Our room was clean, updated, and neat, and the staff was friendly and approachable as well. In addition, all appliances and technology (including wifi) were all easy to use and great, and the balconies in each room offered up nice spots in the crisp mountain air!

The hotel is ideally located among its quaint forest locale and views of the rolling mountains. Just a short walk away, in fact, you can find the famous restaurant Jeremičak, a bakery, a convenience store, forest trails for running, a gas station, and more.

This is my second stay here, and if I ever plan on another Tara trip, there's no question as to where I'll be making reservations!

Tara National Park might not be the most beautiful national park we've ever been to, but it's for sure the most relaxing one. We spent two days at lake Zaovine in an amazing holiday home that we booked with airbnb (we can share details upon request), hiked around the area and swam in the lake. There are very few tourists around (which might be mainly due to the crappy roads leading there), the few people around are mostly farmers and thus the whole area has a very nice off the beaten path vibe. The main view point Banjska Stena just off Mitrovac is a must see for sure and if you're lazy you can actually go most of the way by car and only walk the last couple of meters.

It'a really beautiful and interesting national park with special flora if you see well around with great view point to visit. You should take at least two days to visit around. We had a great daily tour to view point with GREAN BEAR Company, which the tour guide's was the ranjer of the national park with full of information. Tara National Park is a must to visit when you travel to Serbia.

If you like to expolre new places and to see country from inside this is perfect place for you. Wild nature even with a black bear ;-) but perfect for hiking. And near by is small town Bajina Basta perfect for rafting and fishing.

The nature of Mount Tara is intact and very special. Specific micro climate, difficult accessibility to most of the mountain, the concerns of national park and locals keepers, as well as the small number of selected nature-loving tourists, are the main reasons for this. Tara is home to a large number of plant and animal endemic species, the most famous of which is Pancic Omorica, and it is the largest bear habitat in Serbia.

There are over 30 viewpoints, 7 canyons, 5 lakes, 5 waterfalls, 5 archeological sites and several other attractions on Tara. For a complete tour of this park you need at least 3-4 weeks, a guide and an all-terrain car.

In this comment you can see photos of only those attractions that I have not described in other comments. To have a real picture of Tara National Park, you need to read my and others comments on these attractions: Perucac Lake, Zaovine Lake, Reka Vrelo (One Year River), Banjska Stena, The Monastery of Raca, Tvrdjava Solotnikt and Kucica Na Drini.

I hope these comment will help you. If you need any help regarding this or any other attractions in Serbia (location information, transportation, guidance, organizing private tours, etc.) feel free to contact me because I do tours all over Serbia.

Enjoy Serbia!

we made a two day hike in Tara NP (Mitrovac-Predov Krst-Mitrovac), excellent experience! The most famous place of Tara NP is the view of Banjska stena, get ready for sharing that place with many other tourists. There are other viewpoints in Tara, like Orlov vis, which are not as easily accessible (there is no road nearby:)), but which offer equally beautiful views. Except of Banjska stena and locals in villages, we only met one other person in two days spent in the moutains. For getting any information about hiking I recommend the infocenter in Bajina Baska - lady there was super helpfull (compared to Mitrovac and Perucac infocenters)

Tara National Park is beautiful, wild, mountainous part of Serbia with some dramatic views of curvy Drina River, located at the border with Bosnia&Herzegovina. The good idea, if you are planning to go there for couple of days is to stop by in Bajina Basta in Touris Information Centre and talk to Irina. Get yourself a map!.There's few places you can stay overnight in the park, just remember that the accommodation possibilities lowers with the end of the summer. We stayed for three nights in the village of Mitrovac with Alimpije, amazing man with big heart (I can share phone # upon your request). There's many great trails to walk, drive or bike around the park. There's mountain bike rental in Mitrovac and the bicycles are new, in great condition and specialized for this kind of terrain. There's also small store and kafana (local coffee place) in the village. Liitle bit of season as late June or early September are probably the best to visit - there's not too many people any more. People living inside of the boundaries of the park are extremely friendly and helpful. Learn the basic Serbian though. English barely exists in the mountains!

I spent 4 days in the park and had a wonderful time. There’s some really lovely hiking, and going in September meant the weather was perfect and the park was pretty quiet! The highlight was definitely driving to the famous canyon and seeing Bosnia across the river. We then drove down to the lake and swam there - the perfect end to the day!
It’s possible to get there and away by bus (I came from Belgrade and went on to Sarajevo) but it’s not easy to get around the park by bus so you’ll definitely need a car - either driving yourself or hitchhiking. But it’s SO worth the trip!
