Sremski Karlovci is small historical city located 10km from Novi Sad,known for its baroque architecture and wine production.
It is only 100 km from capital ,Belgrade.
Nice attractions to visit are:The Bishop Palace and Orthodox Cathedral Church, gorgeous inside and out,the first High school ,the oldest in Serbia, small beautiful streets with colorful buildings,,four Lions fountain and Chapel of pease.
There is a legend if you take a sip of water from four Lions fountain you will return to Karlovci and get married.
Lovely small town in Serbia.

The Church of St Nicholas in Sremski Karlovci is one of the most important temples of the Serbian Orthodox Church and has a huge religious significance for the Serbs. The visit to the church was an exceptionally beautiful experience. This magnificent church is located next to the Patriarch's Palace. In the very center of the city, right next to the Gymnasium and The Four Lions fountain and others.
The church was built in 1762. It is a one-nave structure with a semicircular apse in the east and two tall Baroque bell towers in the west. The facade was made first in Baroque style but after changed in Renaissance style. In this church there is a part of the remains of Sv. Arsenije Sremac as well as the miraculous icon of the Holy Virgin from 1748. There are lots of old frescoes and icons , as well as some interesting historical paintings. It is imperative to visit, a beautiful baroque church.

Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas is located in the center of Sremski Karlovci, a very nice town full of wineries, in the Northern region of Serbia. It is an orthodox religious building with two bell towers in the main façade and it was built in the 18th Century. In front of the cathedral, there is a promenade with some bars and a beautiful square. Nice.

This is a lovely Orthodox church, dating back to the mid 18th century.
While the church's interior is decent, its exterior is far more picturesque and appealing.

Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas is situated in Sremski Karlovci's city centre, so you can't really miss it. Although from outside it doesn't look so specia, the inner space is absolutely amazing. Lots of old frescoes and icons, as well as some interesting historical paintings. If you're in Sremski Karlovci, don't miss this very beautiful church!

We had an amazing visit to the cathedral. We took lots of photos of the beautiful exterior and its pointed twin spires. The interior is quite beautiful with a golden iconostasis and ornate frescoes. But we were in for an additional treat. Just as we exited and had walked about a block away, we saw probably 100 young men who are students of the priesthood walking toward the church. We went back in and were immersed in the sounds of their young voices chanting during a service. It was one of those experiences of "right time right place" that are priceless as you travel.

The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas was completed in 1762 and from the outside it looks pretty ordinary. But on the inside, the iconostasis is the height of Baroque work in Vojvodina and the rest of the interior is full of color, beautiful stained glass and paintings.

In 1699, Sremski Karlovci was the site of the Treaty of Karlowitz negotiated between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy League (which included the Habsburg Dynasty). As a result of the treaty, Sremski Karlovci and other areas of northern Serbia became part of the Habsburg Empire and in 1712 Sremski Karlovci became the patriarchate for the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Habsburg Empire. As a result, many Serbs who had been under Ottoman rule emigrated to this area which transformed it into a strong center for Orthodoxy and the cultural capital of Serbian Vojvodina. Even today, the Serbian Orthodox Patriarch retains the title of Metropolitan of Karlovci.

The beautiful decoration on the inside of the church merits a visit and spending some time.

When the Austrians moved into Serbia they suppressed the Serbian Orthodox Church in favor of the Catholic, as well as banning the Cyrillic Alphabet, etc. This is why this church is in the baroque, Catholic style. It was the center of the Serbian Orthodox Church (now in Belgrade)

Strongly recommend the tour of this church. It is the museum of the Orthodox Church of Serbia, so they have a collection of very ancient relics from Churches throughout the country. The tour guide was very informative and very accommodating. His English was excellent.
