About
The symbol of Podgorica and also the greatest river flowing through the Capital. Its deep riverbed, large rocks and icy temperatures are just some of the main characteristics of this mountain river. On its way through the Capital, Moraca also carved out many caves. It is 113 kilometres long, and it runs from north to south, flowing into the Skadar Lake.

The Moraca river runs through the city center and gives life to the city. I visited during the winter months when it was cold so there was water flowing. I was told during the summer it's usually dry.
Like many other European cities that has water flowing through them. It really enhances the city environment and brings a sense of calmness to it.

Morača is an awesome river.
Amazing color and clarity of water.
To pass her without stopping has never happened to me.
No matter how much I'm in a hurry I dedicate at least ten - fifteen minutes to this beauty.
She accompanies you on the way from the north of Montenegro to the Adriatic and turns the trip into a memorable experience.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit Montenegro sure not to miss Morača.
Drive carefully and - enjoy.
Beware! River 'm talking about runs from Kolašin till a little before Podgorica, furthermore that is not the same Morača.
I mean, it's like Catherine Deneuve now and 40 years ago.
Still beautiful but ...

It´s not easy to find in the Europe a place which is so pure and natural. You nearly don´t believe it´s real, especially how clear the water is.
I recommend to take the train/car/bus from Podgorica to Kolašin and enjoy a trip through the valley of this river. It´s an exceptional experience.

Just outside of the city is the Moraca river and the so called Moraca Canyon. This canyon is beautiful, with crystal clear waters and high green mountain tops and this is truely the beauty of Podgorica. When I drove through the picturesque road between the canyon I couldn't stop to think that natures works in mysterious ways!
Its definetly worth visiting

We caught a bus from Belgrade to Podgorica and the last 70 km from Kolasin follows the Moraca river. The scenery is stunning my only regret is that I couldn't take any photos due to being the bus, there are however plenty of view points for anyone lucky enough to drive this road and be able to stop.

Just head for Kolasin from Podgorica on the main road or the reverse, and enjoy. The roads is an easy drive with plenty of places to stop and take in the view. A word of warning here though do keep your whits about you as some of the locals do come round bends on the wrong side and so you need to be ready for anything oh and sunglasses off in the tunnels some are longer and darker than you think. If you're in this area you have to do it, also stop at Morava Monastery while your passing but wait until the tour buses have departed.

The road out of Podgorica that heads up to Kolasin and beyond is one of the most breathtaking drives I have done and I've done a few. It follows the Moraca river canyon most of the way. Lots of places to stop and take pictures. The water is crystal clear it heads up past Biogradska gora nationsl park a definite stop and on towards the Durmitor nationsl park. Another must see. There is also Canyon Nevidio a few miles past Savnik on the left another must see. Ive waded into this its incredible in places only a few meters wide with sheer cliffs either side going straight up to the sky. Loads to explore on this road by a map and enjoy.

One of Europe's best kept secrets.
Few tourists, amazing natural beauty, moderate prices, wonderful and helpful Montenegrins!

Flowing down from mount Rzača in northern Montenegro all the way to lake Skadar for some 100 km, the Morača river is certainly one of the country's national assets. Crystal clear water even in Podgorica, though on the river banks often you see garbage of all kinds here. The most spectacular river scenery is towards the north of the city before the river enters the Zeta plain. In the north the significant elevation difference ensures the river is running faster and often the river has carved out its narrow flow through rock formations.
