About
This museum is located in one of the most beautiful buildings of Perast, the Bujovic Palace. A magnificent 18th century palace with an imposing porch consisting of five arcades and beautiful terraces with stone balusters is one of the most beautiful baroque edifices on the Adriatic Coast. Numerous exhibits, documents and paintings presented in several exhibitions are witnesses of the tumultuous and rich history of Perast, from its establishment through the rule of the Republic of Venice to the rule of France and Austria-Hungary in the area.

Let me start by saying that it is a beautiful location with a beautiful view from the balcony. They also get credit for having a museum at all. That said, it is a collection of items that mainly have interest to locals, not to international visitors. There are some historic clothes, books, arms, but the displays and the signage are lacking. I was ready to leave in 15-20 minutes.

I loved a few things about this museum:

1. Very well curated and not cluttered like most museums are.
2. Excellent guides who are part of the experience.
3. Airy and spacious building.

A great place to get a quick history tour of the city and learn about the famous ship building families of the town.

After seeing Our lady of the rock and sailing by the Island of St George, make a quick stop at the Perast Museum and St Nikola Church. All 3 can be done in 2 hours, 2 1/2 at the most and are worth it if you are in Perast. Lots of historical and very old art, artifacts, and architecture.

The building itself is impressive, but this is about the museum inside.

The museum is small, and didn't hold my interest. I thought I had read that you could take in the view from the balcony, but this was not possible.

The staff seemed to want to show me around - so watch for that, as they may try to charge you for the private tour if you allow them to do it.

Architecturally this building is a gem. In keeping with the general street scene but with ornate balconies it's obvious the interior is going to be special.

And it doesn't disappoint. The Perast museum isn't huge by any means but it does house quality historical artifices including a scaled down model of a very early ship, the original built in Sunderland !

It you want to get a flavour of the local history, then yes, this is the place to visit, and enjoy.

On our recent visit to Perast in Montenegro, we took a short ferry ride across the water to visit the old church/museum. From the island we were on we could get an absolutely stunning 360 degree view of Kotor, which was absolutely breathtaking. A must visit place for anyone in the area, you won't be disappointed!

If visiting Perast, a beautiful little town set in the Bay of Kotor, a visit to the museum is well worth while. An interesting and varied collection of historical artifacts and maritime exhibits in a former palace.

The museum was worth a visit and quite featuring many artifacts of local history. Perast is a charming small town on the Bay of Kotor that can be walked in just a few minutes, the museum, churches, shops and harbor- side restaurants make it a must see. You can also take a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks and enjoy the scenery and views of Perast from the sea. They leave the harbor and will pick you up for the return trip every fifteen minutes or so.

Perast is a rough and neglected area of Kotor Bay. Roma youths shake down tourist who park in Perast for money (or else?). This country is named for the “dark mountain” and Perast epitomizes cold and dark. Dilapidated homes, shells of churches, a few unfriendly cafes....not a nice time.

Did you know that the Ottomans captured the towns either side of Perast, Risan & Kotor but not Perast?
If you are curious about the area then visit this museum (formerly a palace) It really captures the history of this lovely town.
It is a small, local state owed museum with a broad range of exhibits - all donated by local families/people. It is about the lives of the people who lived in the palace (now a museum) and other families in the town. We were offered a guide to tell us about the exhibits and the local history. Fascinating and well worth the 4€ entrance fee to preserve the rich history of this unique town.
