Herceg Novi beaches are rocky or have a concrete terrace. Only a very small part has thick, gravel sand. I can’t believe how popular these beaches are. Maybe it’s because of the beautiful setting, surrounded by ancient fortresses and woody hills.Or because of the lively Riva walk, with ships, bars and restaurants.

We arrived at this nice town by ship, so we started and finished our sightseeing at the port. We walked on the promenade and saw the palm trees and the beautiful blue sea. There are many bars, restaurants where you can relax and have some drinks. Unfortunatelly we had only little time.

Went early evening and it was lovely, local families out enjoying swimming platform's, we were lucky and watched a water polo match at the swimming pool. Water taxi back to hotel in time for dinner. Went one morning and walked uphill (very steep) to old town. Loved it.

Walked on here a few times.Heceg Novi old town is worth a visit.Narrow cobbled streets, quaint shops & cafe filled squares.Have a look at the castle(Kanli Kula) & Forte Mare.
You can walk on the promenade from Igalo to Melijne which is about 7km.Its a good walk even if the weather isn't good.

This promenade (setaliste), offers a wonderful opportunity to walk a good few kilometres / miles right next to the sea. It is a pedestrian area and only at certain times vehicles are allowed passage for access. It is lovely not to breathe any exhaust fumes whilst walking, jogging, cycling, hover-boarding, roller-blading, etc. It connects Igalo and Meljine via Herceg-Novi and there are many cafe bars and restaurants to stop by and take a break or you can just sit on a beach somewhere. It is a popular place for dog owners to take their dogs out for a walk too. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because there is a part around Citadele (past the harbour in HN) that is a bit stinky from the local sewage place and also the fence on the edge of the path has been corroding in places due to salt in the air from the sea and has even fallen in a couple of places. This is something that the local Municipality needs to address a.s.a.p. to prevent any potentially serious injuries. So, best not to lean on the fence! Also, a word of warning: watch where you step as the path is uneven in places as the manhole covers stick from the ground in a few places where the path is unfinished. There is also a problem with the finished part of the path, by the Do-Do Cafe for example, as the tiles on the path can get incredibly slippery when it rains so make sure you walk with care in wet conditions. Other than that, it is a truly lovely promenade with plenty of spots that offer fantastic background for nice photos to be taken!

Near the bus station of Herzeg-Novi there is a tourist information point (a small 4X4 sq m box with one employee). The employee will give you a map of hiking trails (English or Russian) which all start from the promenade, ie, all your hiking is up to the hills from the promenade. One hiking trail we explored was very well marked and led us to Matkovica most which offers a beautiful views of Herzeg Novi and the sea.

Herzeg-Novi is a lovely little town, the sort of place where the municipal parking attendent is loath to forgive a stranger for not having cash for parking and even let you get away without a fine! Beat that! After first one then another cup of very good coffee taken on the beach, I took a pleasant stroll on the promenade - which is a charming recreational area with lovely shops, fruit stands and cafés alongside. As I pass the very decent public swimming pool, a game of waterpolo is being played out and along the seashore there are waterpolo goals bouyed down, which reminds me that the sport is huge along the Adriatic coast. I decide to take my family to the Paluba restaurant, which has a terrace overlooking the bay. There we enjoy a stunning sunset and a glass of excellent local wine. Herzeg-Novi is well worth a visit and I regret not staying longer!

In contrast to the steep climbs in Herceg Novi old town, the 5 kilometre or more seaside promenade is flat, as it is built on the old single line railway track that supposedly ended up in Sarajevo. There is even a small dripping tunnel to walk through. Nearer the Herceg Novi end, it is lined with some very attractive cafes, including the very highly rated and vegetarian Pieter’s Pie and Coffee. As the promenade reaches Igalo there is a beach and concrete sunbathing and swimming platforms, and larger bars, restaurants and clubs. We very much enjoyed walking on this pedestrianised promenade.
