We took a tour through Saint Louis by horse and carriage. It was really worth it. It was a great way to see the town and our guide was excellent. He explained the fishing, the sheep herding, the bridges and the history as well as the cultural differences between the north and south. Well worth the visit!

St. Louis is a charming little city, beaches are pristine, bird sanctuary was fascinating and the fish market was thriving. Go to the museum...the artwork, which was being put up when I was there, was fantastic. Not like the mass produced stuff in Dakar. Post Hotel is nice and you have to eat the local fish dish Tiebou dieun.
Great little getaway from Dakar.

Saint Louis and Senegal is a wonderful place with friendly people who are most welcoming. The whole place feels very safe. BUT the litter problem seems out of control. Plastic is everywhere and there does not appear to be an effort to clean it up.

We were recommended to book a tour to Park Djoudj from the local tourism syndicat. It's really lovely because it provides employment opportunities and training for local residents of Saint Louis, who are incredibly well informed and kind, and are able to support their families through work with tourists. We booked a tour of Park Djoudj with a local guide named Massamba Mboup through this organization. He was a lovely lovely man who knew everything about everything in the region, including architecture, history, botany, and zoology. He arranged a tour in Park Djoudj, which he accompanied us for, lunch in his home, and taxis back to Dakar the next day. It seems like everybody knows and loves him in Saint Louis, as every taxi we took with him or arranged by him was between 10 and 20000 CFA lower than the original price we were quoted without him. This doesn't surprise me, after seeing that the money he earned from our tour he immediately spent on buying school shoes for children in his neighborhood. It gives you the opportunity to really interact with locals who know and love their homeland, instead of supporting further neocolonialist businesses that do not pay locals enough. I'm sure all the guides that work there are lovely, but if you speak French, I would very much recommend Massamba Mboup. His contact is (211) 77.538.66.81.

A useful little tourist office with only a small amount of tourist information available. Staff however were very friendly. There is a very good exhibition on the history of the brave French airmen who were responsible for the aeroposte flying from Paris via west Africa and across to south America in the 1930s.

We were told that a horse carriage ride was essential to see Saint Louis, and while it's not my thing, I was reassured that this is what's done. I'm glad I did. Hours are a little weird, but when we got someone, he immediately closed the office, got us a carriage and came along for the tour, showing us the whole island, the fisherman's village and the bridges. There's not a lot of organized things to do in Saint Louis, so definitely do this.

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Senegal and earlier this afternoon we took a horse drawn carriage tour - together with an English speaking guide - around the Island (and Fisherman’s area) of Saint-Louis.
The 90 minute Tour (which covered much of the Island and the adjacent Fisherman’s area - originally part of neighbouring Mauritania and a much busier and hectic environment) proved an excellent experience as - without the guide - it’s difficult to see how else one can get such a good understanding of the Island.
As such, something I would strongly recommend and - if poseible - get a guide as clearly some of the drivers will be more knowledgeable than others!!

This small museum dedicated to the Aeropostale could have been a whole lot more. If you make an effort, you will learn a lot.

Great, helpful and knowledgable staff with many options and recommendations on what to do while in the St Louis region. My tour guide was phenomenal and spoke English very eloquently. I learned a lot about Senegalese culture and history from him. Highly recommend.
