We spent a wonderful day tour around Painted Monasteries in Bucovina Region - Gigi was the perfect guide - very informative, helpful and polite. So many interesting things we discovered about the beautiful monasteries and other places we visited. Can't recommend this tour enough - when I come back in the region, definitely will book another tour with AXA travel.

We spent a wonderful 5-day tour in the north of Romania with Axa Travel. We had arranged a very complete programme of visits with Gigi, the owner of the agency. He answered all our questions and advised us in a very professional way. Mitosh, his younger brother, accompanied us during the tour. He picked us up at a hotel in Iasi and brought us to Suceava visiting a few monasteries in the Neamt region on the way ( Moldavia tour ) . Then, by combining different daytrips organised by Axa, we visited the most beautiful painted monasteries of Bucovina, but also lesser known places near the Ukrainian border ( Bucovina painted monasteries tour + Bucovina extra day tour ). On another day Mitosh took us to the Moldovita steam train, which was great fun, and we also visited an amazing painted eggs museum. On the last day Mitosh took us all the way from Suceava to Maramures, visiting different very interesting places on the way. About 1200km altogether from Iasi to Maamures !
Mitosh was a very good guide and driver, giving us the necessary explanations but leaving us time to see things at our own pace. We really appreciated that. He took us to good places for lunch where we could taste excellent Moldavian specialities. He was also very good company.
We warmly recommend Axa for visiting Bucovina and Maramures. Too bad they don't speak French. Nobody's perfect !

I did the Bucovina Monasteries Tour the day after flying in to Suceava from Bucharest. The tour was great, took 8 hours and included four painted monasteries, views from Palma pass and the black pottery workshop. Mitosh was a very helpful and knowledgeable guide. Booking was easy and hotel pick up on time. A very good experience was also our restaurant for lunch with a selection of local dishes. The Bucovina landscape surrounding the monasteries is a sight in itself. I fully recommend the tour.

I contacted Axa Travel before arriving in Romania to book day tours of the monasteries. Gigi was always prompt to reply and answer any questions I had and make recommendations about what to see in Bucovina. He is very flexible about customizing his day trips to meet the client’s needs. He is very knowledgeable about the area and obviously enjoys sharing his love of Romanian culture. I would highly recommend Axa Travel if you want reliable, informed tour services in Bucovina and Moldavia.

We had a great two days in two separate day tours with Gigi, discovering 8 wonderful painted monasteries in Bucovina! Gigi was very knowledgeable, flexible and accommodating in what we wanted to do and see. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and clear passion for his home in Bucovina and would warmly recommend anyone considering taking a tour in this part of Romania to contact Gigi at AXA Tours!

We have just has a wonderful few days with Gigi. I highly recommend him as a guide to this beautiful country. Gigi is both patient and kind. Two things necessary to have with your tour guide. We loved the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains as he drove us from one beautiful painted church to the next. We also enjoyed his ability to share the history on the areas as well as the cultures we encountered. Having lived in this area for generations he knew not only where to take us to see beauty, history and architecture but also where to eat! Assisting in our food choices was also very enjoyable for us.
We had an excellent tour and an enjoyable time with Gigi. We highly recommend his guidance and company while visiting this beautiful and amazing country of Romania.

Great organization. The guide is helpful and really professional: any question about history of the area or an explanation concerning a painting, will be satisfied! I joined a private tour for the painted Monasteries: the service was perfect and the price affordable!

Gigi is an excellent guide who has a perfect balance between interesting information and explanation and allowing free time. He also went out of his way to pick us up at one location and drop us at another and to return the jacket we had left on the minibus. Best choice for the Bucovina monasteries. Ed

The painted monasteries are one of the very special architecture in Romania and it's the place I've been longing to go to. Gigi the Guide is fantastic. He knows the region quite well and everything is very well explained. Gigi helps me customize my tour due to my time constraints. The tour is very well arranged and I am quite happy that I am able to see whatever I want.

Gigi was awesome!
We first went to Mocănița Moldovița to enjoy the experience to ride an ancient steam train. It goes for 45/50 minutes passing through beautiful hills and Forrest (Romania nature is very unique). By train you will reach a small touristy village by the river, where you can have a traditional Romanian lunch.
After this , off we go towards our adventure on the Rarău mountain. Thanks to Gigi we climbed Piatra Doamnei. (Lady’s Rock). Gigi was very nice to us (he also brought bottles of water) and his help was fundamental. He explained to us where to climb and how ( a lot of people had trouble because they did it wrong, climbing on their own) so, together we were able to reach the top and enjoy an amazing view.
What's the best way to conclude the adventure if not sharing a fresh beer together? So we did, at the base of the mountain.🍻
On the way back to Suceava Gigi recommended us other nice regions to visit in the future and we will certainly do it!
See you in the near future, Gigi!
