Apparently, the Cucuteni people were geometry fanatics. They loved to paint triangles, circles, squares and other geometrical figures.
They also seemed to be obsessed about female torsos. All the female statues displayed in the museum are very curvy, with small head and no arms.
As far as I understood, the only artifacts left behind by Cucuteni civilization are the ceramic pots and statues exposed in this museum.
The exhibition really worth visiting if you're around. If no one tells you how old the exhibits are, you might believe it's a modern art gallery.

Amazing art understanding and art techniques from a culture which lived more than 4000 BC.ago. The single exposed artefacts deserve a more large audience, I mean an international one. Unfortunately all the notices joined to the objects are written only in Romanian language. Notices in English as well, would enlarge the potential amount of visitors. I think these extraordinary exhibition would deserve o be better known, even out of Romania.

The Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum is unique in its theme in Romania, being at the same time a museum of history and art, which houses the most important collection of Eneolithic art in Southeastern Europe. Housed in the most beautiful building in Piatra-Neamț, declared Historical Monument by the Royal Court. Here is the International Cucuteni Cultural Research Center.
How the museum is organized:
The museum contains very old exhibits, from 4500 to 6000 years ago. The beautiful, painted vessels are fascinating.
On the ground floor is the hall dedicated to decorative art and a hall dedicated to the history of the Cucuteni culture research. There are four categories of pots, probably cultic: crowns, binoculars, horticultural vessels and supports and columns.
First floor are objects of the Cucutenian decorative art.

There is an international interest in this museum and there is even a waiting list for archaeologists who want to come and visit the exhibits at Cucuteni. In the short time since its inauguration, the Cucuteni Museum has become remarkable by its uniqueness and spectacularity becoming one of the most appreciated and visited institutions in Romania thus contributing significantly to the affirmation of the city Piatra-Neamț as an important cultural-scientific and tourist center, both in the country and abroad.
Visit schedule:
10:00-18:00 (April to September)
9:00-17:00 (October to March)
Monday is closed.
Address: Ştefan cel Mare street, no. 3, Piatra-Neamț

As much as I like Piatra Neamț, candidly I must say that there is a lack of high quality tourist attractions. Perhaps, however, this museum is one of the best indoor tourist attractions in Județul Neamț.

For the most part, the exhibits are quite interesting and will give you much information to digest and process.

Thus, if you ever find yourself in Piatra Neamț with some time to be a tourist, this is a must see museum.

This is a small museum that gives the traveler a peek into the Cucuteni ceramics - I guess you need to be interested in ceramics or art or history to really appreciate it. However, the pieces on display are 5 to 7 thousand years old - that is something worth seeing! The entrance is 4 lei (about 1 euro), the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there are same explicative panels in English.

romania always reserves interesting surprises, this archaeological museum of the Neolithic period is well stocked. very interesting the factoried pottery and numerous statuettes present, the museum is well composed, clean. no less interesting is the structure of the building where it is housed, all is located in the historic square of the city, which overlooks the great public paco, under the hills and ideal for a nice cultural walk.
to see, highly recommended.

The quality scale and beauty of these ancient pots is breathtaking, at least two thousand years before the crude pottery of Neolithic Britain. The layout is informative and the staff excellent and helpful

If you ever think of visiting Piatra Neamt, please take one hour of your time and go visit this museum.
The objects on display are amazing, especially when you think that they have been made a few millennia ago.
It's a little museum, lodged in one of the nicest buildings in the town (the first bank that was ever here).

excelent experience, a small place but rich in culture.Pottery remains from this early period are very rarely discovered; the remains that have been found indicate that the ceramics were used after being fired in a kiln. The outer color of the pottery is a smoky gray, with raised and sunken relief decorations. rare and precious.
