About
This name derives from the mechanism installed in the church tower in 1793. The clock and the moon are the work of George Rueppe, an innovative mechanic from Oradea. The mechanism rotating the moon is designed to make a full rotation on its axis in 28 days, thus indicating the moon phases, depending on the daily cycle marked by the clock mechanism. Inside the Moon Church you can visit a representative museum, with particularly beautiful Orthodox church-related objects.

This year I also visited the museum of the Moon Church and I discovered some interesting things about the history of this church, what efforts were made to build it. I also found out, that inside the church, above the altar, the face of the popular hero Horea was painted. It is worth visiting, because, as far as I know, only this church has that mechanism that shows us the phases of the Moon, being unique in the world.

Beautiful ortodox church, nice and quiet, lovely place to pray. Impresed as during the visit we found people praying inside. The church is opened even late in the evening.
The moon phases that you can see outside on the facade is interesting, but the interior impressed me more.

It's located in the center of Oradea and it's a great attraction. You can admire its architecture and the clock mechanism showing the phases of the moon. If you go inside you can see the great paintings. It's an Orthodox church.

The silhouette of the Moon Church will catch your eyes in the Unirii Square (especially if it happens to be a full moon day, so the sphere displayed above the church entrance will be bright yellow).
You can sit on a bench in the square, sip a cup of coffee and admire the elegance of Baroque architecture lines. In my opinion, there's no point to go inside the church - it's a typical Orthodox church with all the walls covered in paintings of various saints and Biblical scenes. There's not a single square centimeter to rest your view.

This is also part of the city’s history. Ortodox church is interesting. Not an ordinary name invites you to visit this church.

It is a typical Orthodox church one cannot miss, as iti is quiet central. It is very reliogious-related, but a must-see.

The whole area is to be visited if you reach the central area of Oradea. "The Moon Church" has this name because the central tower has a mechanism that shows the moon's phases in real time. The mechanism of the globe is related to the clock mechanism, also at 28 days, the globe rotates around its axis, indicating the phases of the moon. The globe is visible from the outside of the church.
