This year I also visited the museum of the Moon Church and I discovered some interesting things about the history of this church, what efforts were made to build it. I also found out, that inside the church, above the altar, the face of the popular hero Horea was painted. It is worth visiting, because, as far as I know, only this church has that mechanism that shows us the phases of the Moon, being unique in the world.

The church with the moon is the orthodoxepiscopate of Oradea, built in the first half of the 18-th century. Its name originates from the ball half gold, half black , which depicts the moon located above the main entrance, simulating the moon movement around the earth.

This church is located in the centre, in the main square, so you can't miss it. It's called Moon Church or Orthodox Cathedral. It was built between1787-1790 in Baroque style.. Its Bell-tower is 55ms high and under the clock there's a black-and-gold orb/ball which shows the real phases of the moon. We spent there only some minutes before a wedding ceremony. It's worth to go inside.

The rotating moon installed in the church tower in 1793 gives this religious sanctuary its name and reputation. The mechanism is still working, enabling people to admire the diferent phases of the moon from accross the square. The church is also known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and it is a Christian-Orthodox church with intricate interiors.

The Moon Church is interesting. Not worth more than a few minutes to peek your head in but it is a beautiful building. It's especially interesting on the weekends when there is a line up for weddings inside.
