Overview
More
This name derives from the mechanism installed in the church tower in 1793. The clock and the moon are the work of George Rueppe, an innovative mechanic from Oradea. The mechanism rotating the moon is designed to make a full rotation on its axis in 28 days, thus indicating the moon phases, depending on the daily cycle marked by the clock mechanism. Inside the Moon Church you can visit a representative museum, with particularly beautiful Orthodox church-related objects.

A very nice stop on any walk through the central square. The moon clock being its most unique design feature. The little gift area inside offers some very low cost icons, among other items. A great find for icon collectors.

The Moon Church is not large but the entire inside can be seen without pillars in the way and the decoration is wonderful. Certainly worth a half hour of your time to check out as I can't think of a more beautiful church that I...More

The Moon Church, also known as the Assumption Cathedral, is a Christian-Orthodox church located in Oradea, built between 1784-1790. It was named because of a unique mechanism in Europe, located on the church's tower, which has the purpose of moving a sphere with a diameter...More

We weren't able to enter the church because there was a wedding happening, but the outside of it was very nice.

Probably the most famous church in Oradea, located in the heart of the city, showing the phases of the moon from its clock tower.

Maybe you visit enough churches in your lifetime. What is the unique element that make this place so special? Is the MOON ! We can see the phases of that special satellite even if the time is in middle of the day.

This is one of several buildings at the plaza. It is definitely worth a quick look. Ask about the history of the church.

A large and interesting church with a nice history. If you are in Oradea you can stop by and admire it, being right in the middle of the city. We had our wedding ceremony there.
