About
The City Hall Palace and Tower THE BUILDING IS THE WORK OF ARCHITECT RIMANÓCZY KÁLMÁN JR., WHO IN 1896 WON THE PROJECT CONTEST FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE CITY HALL. THE SOLEMN INAUGURATION MEETING OF THE LOCAL COUNCIL WAS HELD IN THE NEWLY-BUILT PALACE ON THE 10th OF JANUARY 1904. THE CITY HALL TOWER With a height of about 50 m and 4 main levels, three of which have observation decks, the City Hall Palace Tower is also hosts the clock announcing the exact time in Oradea. The mechanism of the clock, called the "mother clock", strikes every hour and plays Iancu's March. The local watchmaker Mezey Dezső built the mechanism in the early twentieth century, in 1904. The clock survived two world wars, while the roof and wall of the tower survived the two great fires of 1917 and 1944. The watch dial retains even today bullet holes from gunfires shot during the Second World War. The second level was also the observation point of the city firefighter on duty. Fires were announced by ringing a bell, depending on the area where the fire started. In the daytime, a red flag was unfurled in the direction of the fire, while at night an electric projector was used.

Nice building in the center of Oradea. It's worth climbing the stairs to get to the to of the tower. The view is amazing. You can also admire the clock mechanism and the music it plays. Highly recommended.

Located in the center of Oradea the City Hall has a large walking area in front of it. It is surrounded by lovely renovated old houses and close near is a nice park where kids can have a lot of fun.

We went to the top of the clock tower for about 5 lei which was great. There are a fair few steps and a narrow walk way at the top but it is very beautiful and definitely worth it.

The building is massive, great architecture, and it does complement the entire setting on Piati Unurii. Take as many pictures as you can from any angle, it will still be beautiful :)

The City Hall is a very beautiful building and the tower rise 70m above the land, allowing a gorgeous view of Oradea, all around. The tower was built in the beginning of the XX century and it has 3 intermediate balconies around the tower and a platform in the top. The lady at the entrance is very kind and competent and she provides a lot of details about other attractions in Oradea suitable for the age of visitors and she is very supportive: we had a girl with us who was scared about the hight of the tower and she was very gentle.

Climb the tower, be deafened on the hour when the clock chimes. Great 360 deg views of the city, the river and surrounding countryside. Not to be missed. But a lot of stairs to climb!
