We stumbled on this museum by chance wandering around Oradea. It is an Art Nouveau residence, splendidly renovated and turned into a museum showing the lifestyle of Oradea's upper classes in early 20 century and explaining the turbulent story of its owners. It is a real gem, both architecture and the inside.
As an added bonus there was an exhibition showing similarities between Art Nouveau architecture of Oradea and northern Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica). We loved it as we had just been to Subotica less than a month before.

Very interesting museum and not at all expensive. In other cities and Europe we would have paid more for this.
In fact is a family house in Art Nouveau stile transformed in museum. While we were there some exibitions were hosted by the museum: toy cars, hats, designs by Goya, which made the visit even more impresive. Also in one room a film was rolling presenting a child dream during night.
It worth spending 2 hours there.

Worth visiting, elegantly decorated reminding us of a distant past. The family who built the house was Jewish, that is why there is a magnificent view of the Synagogue from the balcony and garden. They will even put on a 3d show

A true gem, way beyond my expectations. It goes back in detail to the days of 1910s, with focus on the Art Nouveau. Artifacts, tablets for multimedia presentations for each room (free of charge, in Romanian, English or Hungarian), a mind blowing video in the projections room, a lot of detailed boards on the history of this place and its owners/architects. Worth mentioning also the souvenir shop, cash / card, and the friendly staff.
I got to enter just before the closing, for 30 minutes (last entry by 4:30 PM), but I was the only guest. Probably I would have stayed much longer inside, if I had entered earlier. Next time I will spend more time, I promise to myself.

I decided to finally become a tourist in my own city so myself and a friend visited a recently renovated house that is sure to make you fall in love with thr Art Nouveau style. The tour is lovely, cheap, they have tablrts to tell you the story and a lovely and classy little giftshop. You must visit it!

The Darvas House is a gorgeous legacy of Oradea's pre-war past. It is a rare insight into the life of Central European families at the beginning of the 20th century. It is a must see for people interested in Art Nouveau, private histories and people just wanting to see a beautiful home.

Made in the Viennese Art Nouveau style, between 1910-1911, the building has a facade adorned with Zsolnay ceramic decorative buttons that have six distinct decorative motifs. Their color is blue-green, with metallic reflections of the enamel. The balcony and the statuette in its corner are also very beautiful. If you have the opportunity to visit the interior, there you will discover absolutely beautiful stained glass windows and hardware, rococo style furniture, the fountain in the hall decorated with geometric elements of Zsolnay ceramics, as well as the two radiator masks made of stamped copper, perforated with cutouts, in Viennese Secession style.

An amazing surprise! The house is fully renovated and it also offers an interactive experience, with various integrated technologies, such as cool animated projections related to Art Nouveau and the history of the place.
The interior design is mesmerizing and the garden is also nice, especially if you get there on a sunny day.
The entrance fee is very affordable.

I was expecting at many different things but was above my expectations. Everything it’s on the right place in this house.
I liked the exhibition from ground floor but the amazing thing is on the first floor.
You travel back in history in one of the most beautiful days.
One more thing about the “ children’s room”: great job ! My daughter was amazed and delighted
