I brought up this entry because it had some really decent photos of the drawings--far better than any I made. The 16 drawings are really special and these photos will help you to find the straight lines (made by vehicles) that will be of great assistance when you are actually flying over the site.

Important note: As much as it looks easy to find these drawings as you are flying, IT IS NOT! Get as many reference points in your mid as you possibly can to help you to find them from the air! You will have only seconds over each drawing!

Background info on the lines
Oct 2019
This is a great accompaniment to visiting the lines for background info on how they were discovered and the campaign to save them from further damage. The maps showing the detail of the lines and the size/scale is amazing.

In Memory
Jun 2019 • Friends
Maria Reiche was a German born Mathematician, Scientist who served Peru in her valuable research as an archaeologist and technical translator. She was a pioneer in the development of the Nazca Lines and wrote a book “Aerial Views of Sacred Landscape.” Throughout her life, her entire life that she dedicated to the Nazca lines, there is a museum in her memory about 10-20 kms from the entrance of the Nazca flying zone. We stopped here briefly but did not spend much time to read about the display, exhibits. It is remotely located. But it is never a disservice to commemorate something to remember someone who dedicated her life to service humanity.

Definitely worth stopping here if you want to know how the lines were identified as important culturally to the Peruvians. Without this ladies work and persistence so much of this could have ended up unnoticed.

If you have the time a must....

You may not have the time but this is a must for amateur archeologists. Dedicated to the memory and works of Maria Raiche the German archeological "queen" of the Nazca Lines who lived and worked in Nazca from 1932 to 1998. Includes a mummy from the desert too which will interest the kids.

Worth a visit for the tattooed mummy
Oct 2017 • Couples
We took a public bus from the area around the Nazca bus station to the museum for 3 soles per person, and the ride took about 20-30 mins. The museum is located not far from the mirador (viewing tower over some of the Nazca lines) and can be done together.

There were about 2 rooms with some artefacts and brief explanations in English, and the museum also shows Maria Reiche's simple and sparsely furnished living quarters. There was also some pottery on display, and a heavily tattooed mummy. We found it fascinating that much of the skin was still on the mummy, and that it was well preserved despite being so old.

It's not as informative as the other museums in Nazca (such as the Antonini museum or the planetarium), and since it's quite out of town, it's only worth a visit if you're going to the viewing tower or find mummies fascinating.

Learned alot about this rather eccentric, but important, scholar of the Nazca lines. What she did was amazing....

Maria Raiche explored the Nazca lines from 1932 until her death in 1998. What she did, mapping the images (before one could fly over them) was awesome.

Only when you have enough time

I found this museum a little bit disappointing. It is (was) Maria Reiches house and office, close to the pampa with the Nasca Lines in San Miguel. Everything is left like it was. Even all her drawings are still lying there and are going backward.
You can find her grave in the garden of the museum.

Worth the visit to see how modestly this woman lived. She was totally dedicated to the area and her work.
