We had 3 nights in Huacachina so decided to come on a little excursion here. It was quite the journey to get to, about 3 hours or so each way, but to go through miles and miles of desert was in itself an experience. There is nothing for miles so I think you have to go as part of a tour not by yourself. It is very picturesque and we enjoyed walking through the canyon. It really feels undisturbed with few tourists and like you're in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful.

I made the tour with the agency Deinis Tour Paracas which is in the center of Paracas, was one of the best tours, excellent guide and service, beautiful place. It was undoubtedly striking.
Tip: sunscreen, bandana to protect the nose, dark glasses and water.

It is closer to Ica than Nazca however i couldnt get anybody to share the transport so i did it from Nazca at great expense.... i could not miss this place. My taxi driver got lost in the desert trying to find it....probably 100klms off the main hwy.
Cheapest way is to get to the village of Occuje and then hire a collectivo from there.
For best photos get there at noon before the shadows come accross the canyon.

Sure, it's quite impressive to see a kind of mini-canon through which runs a river once in a while in the middle of a very dry, dusty and hot desert. However, the ride on forelorn tracks in through the desert is very uncomfortable to say the least. A 4x4 SUV is a must. Also I adamantly recommend to contract a reputable adventure trip agency from Ica for a guide. We met people who were lost with their car for 6 hours in the desert. No phone receiption, no village or even some huts for shelter along the way. 0 infrastructure. Very hot and in the afternoon strong winds (38 C. / 40 km/hr). Top of petrol tank before leaving and take at least 5 liters of water with you. I also recommend to register with the police in Ocucaje before entering the desert, just in case you get lost, puncture a tire or car overheats.

We went to Ica only with the objective to do the tour to the cañon de los perdidos and after some enquiries with the agencies located on or in the vicinity of the Plaza de Armas, decided to book the tour with "Inkasumi".

On the next day we were NOT picked up as agreed upon, and only after actively writing to/calling several of the provided contact numbers did we finally got the information that the TOUR WAS CANCELLED.
This means that all the time in preparing (going there in the first place, finding agencies, comparing, booking, getting provisions for the tour, getting up at 5:30 in the morning, waiting for +/- 1,5 hrs, going again to the office later on, ...) was wasted. If you're on a trip with lots of plans and limited vacation time this can be very annoying.

One positive note: the agency refunded the prepaid amount without any trouble or further delay after opening hours.

I didn’t expect to see something like this.
The drive there from Ica can be quite long (2 hours) but the walk is short and the view and landscape is worth it.
Go see it before it becomes too popular !

A really nice experience deep into the desert, we were alone. We went with a private car and driver arranged by our Huacachina hotel. A beautiful natural site that will for sure get more popular in the coming years, I think you should go ASAP if you want to enjoy the exploratory feel of the tour!

After having heard about this from some other travellers we wanted to go there. It is absolutely amazing! Yes the drive is long (around 2,5 hours), but wow every minute is filled with amazing scenery. You drive alone through the desert. The road can get really blown away by.wind, so please hire an experienced guide!! We did the canyon combined with one winery and transport to Nazca; this is way to much. The canyon is a full day trip I would say! Enjoy :-)

we decided to go to this place because we love places where is not many tourist cañon de los perdidos we like for its visually overwhelming size and its intricate and colorful sandy landscape. Geologically, it is significant because of the thick sequence of ancient rocks that are well preserved and exposed in the walls of the canyon. These rock layers record much of the early geologic history of the ocucaje is not easy to get there but it worth, very windy but great experience.
