It's a typical chaotic central market found in Latin American countries. Plenty of restaurants, grocery and vegetables shops plus all sorts of stuff from shoes, bags, etc. I usually bought dry fruits at great price.

Cultural tourism at its best!

I believe that one of the best ways to try to understand local cultures its through their markets: what locals sell and buy tells a great deal about their customs. Go to the central market and check the trouts, guinea pigs, rabbits and more. You can buy fruits and vegetables and in the second floor there is a very traditional small restaurant named "Bolbo". If you haven't tried there early in the morning the 'caldo de cabeza' (lamb head soup) or the 'caldo de gallina' (hen's soup), you can't say you know Huaraz.
