An interesting set of displays

It only takes about 30 minutes to see and appreciate what the museum has to offer. We learned some interesting facts about the area. The highlight is the smallest mummy ( of a fetus that is estimated to be 6 or 7 months gestation). Added bonus - there was no entrance fee.

Im usually not a huge fan of Museums but .... if you come to Caraz Visit the museum. It has the smallest mummified baby and beautiful ceramics and plenty to spend 45 min or an hourseeing. The guide is FANTASTIC. He knows his stuff and would love to share with you. The Museum is FREE

This is a small well done museo. Possibly the smallest mummy known exists here. Really brought a new aspect to ancient culture we had no idea existed!

Pleasant surprise

All too often, small municipal museums are very disappointing, but not this one! Quite the contrary, although small, it's charming, interesting and staffed by knowledgeable and friendly folk. Well worth a visit if for no other reason than the well-known "smallest mummy" it has on display. There are, however, more reasons. I was alone the day I went and had a long talk (I'm bilingual in Spanish) with a number of employees and was given good advice on getting more info and a Quechua dictionary. Don't miss this!

A small and very comprehensive collection

Rather than a museum, is an exibition of valuable artifacts belonging to the Huaylas Culture, sometimes know as Recuay Culture. The display is cronological-based, so it give you a clear vision of how during the last years the people who lived in this region transformed the landscape and had a worship based in the nature. You will find the smallest mummy in the world, it's barely 17cm tall. Also a huge collection of pottery, weapons, textiles, etc. Admission is free and there's a very good Guide, a tip of about 5/10 Soles per person is worth for a 1-hr tour.

Was really interesting to discover in this museum the WORLD LITTLEST MUMMY!
Also we discovered a lot of thing about pre inca civilization Wari some special objects like calculators, weapons, musical instruments. We saw also othr mummies and deformed skulls.
The guide CARLOS was fantastic. He is the same person who organized the museum and doing research about pre inca civilization.
ALL THIS FOR FREEEEEEEE!
Highly reccomend the visit that during about 1.30hour. The museum is open untill 7 pm.
