About
Come have the time of your life at one of the most popular beaches in greater Lagos. Here you can go horseback riding for a unique beach experience. The atmosphere is lively, as the waterfront is lined with restaurants and bars where you can sit for lunch or grab a cocktail later in the day. The water is clear, but the crashing waves call for caution when you go for a swim. While grown-ups venture into the ocean, kids can have a blast on the playground. To enjoy all that, you’ll need to pay a fee before entering Elegushi Beach. – Tripadvisor

If you're looking for a 'local' beach, Elegushi beach is where to come. This is not the place for well behaved kids or romantic strolls.
I came to this beach when I wanted to show my kids what a real local Lagos beach was like. They had been to Landmark Beach, Takwa Bay and a couple of coves by speedboat. So, here, what they experienced was a beach with strong waves that would pull them to the ground and wash over them, playful currents that got sand in their hair and other 'regions' and the ability to play and squeal throughout.
At this beach, there is no rich or poor - everyone was an equal.
Oh, did I mention the 'ferris wheels' all over the beach? The mechanical contraptions pulled into motion by strong men. They don't exist on the posh beaches and kids love it!
I recommend that if you're going with kids or you don't want the rush, you go in the morning and leave by 2pm when it gets very busy. Also, you can take your own food and drinks with you. Be prepared to pay for entry, seating etc so take smaller bills like 100 and 200 Nairas.

After a visit to Eleko, I sought a beach front closer to the city and went to see Elegushi. The beach is well protected, with an entrance gate/fee, but I still found it a little too noisy for the kind of calm I desire on a beach. Perhaps that is the trade off of having a city beach. With a little more finesse, the staff can improve the ambiance a lot.

While staying in Lagos I decided to visit the beach with my husband and a few friends of his.
I found the beach very dirty with broken bottles, litter and lots of people just using it for a toilet !! I found this quite sad as the beach could be lovely if only it was looked after properly!! If only the locals start to put litter in bins or take litter home with them, when I finished my drink I was told to sling the bottle on the floor ( I just couldn't do it) you had to be careful where you walked as for glass everywhere and there isn't any toilets so maybe it would be a good idea to build some !! A awesome atmosphere with live music and bars on the beach , horse rides and I brought some really lovely items craved from wood.

I had mixed emotions about going to this beach. We went on a Monday because the weekends are the busiest . I wanted to go when the beach was less busy so I could enjoy the natural beauty. Upon our arrival I noticed the beach was empty. I thought we were in the wrong place. But as we walked a litter further I begin to notice the bars and hear the music.
We were then greeted by two guys who invited us to seat at their establishment. We brought our own food and drinks. Good thing because it was about $30 for two drinks. There is a guy who sells jewelry at a reasonable price and a guy who will serenade you for a small fee.
Then things got CRAZY! First, the water is very, very, strong , extremely intoxicating and UNSAFE. As we walked along the shore line I thought I would let my feet get wet. I made the mistake of looking at the water. Before I knew it I was in a trace like state and I could not move. There was a big wave coming straight for me and I can't SWIM! But I was so intoxicated my the water I could not move or speak.
I remember thinking if I don't move I am going to drown and I don't want to die in Nigeria! Somehow, I was able to pull myself out of the trace and run back from the wave right be for in hit the beach. My husband had no idea that I had almost lost my life. Until he saw the fear on my face!
As if that was not enough, leaving we were accosted by two guys who demanded N10,000 from us. My husband who is a Nigerian laughed and refused. They treated to vandalize our car and block us from leaving! They then called for reinforcements. My husband paid the RANSOM we were then allowed to leave.
Would I recommend this beach NO!!! It is not SAFE! I learned later that people drown at this beach weekly. In addition, the beach establishments are run by criminals who regular extort money from people who visit the beach. No wounder there is a SPIRIT that lives in the WATER and it's MEAN!

Don't waste your time going here. The beach is covered in garbage and so crowded. Its hard to enjoy time with your friends or family without someone trying to take advantage of you for money. The music is far too loud to just sit and have a conservation and there's no where to relax.
Wouldn't waste my time or money going here again.

The first time we came here was during the week and the beach was empty. Our okada was stopped and we were asked to pay the entrance fee of 1000 naira. The quards jumped from their hut in such agressive way that my nigerian friend decided it was better to leave. Since the beach was empty, we left asap which was the right thing to do. Once they see a white person coming, their eyes start counting dollars and if we had entered the beach that day, the guards would have called all their friends / area boys of the area to collect money from us and maybe take our belongings. So it is NOT a good idea to visit the beach when it's empty.
We went there again on a Sunday in a group. Its better to go in a group if you are white. Still, we experienced a lot of hassle. Many people ask money from you. Apart from the entrance fee there are some area boys expecting money and to be able to sit somewhere you need to pay as well. We spent more than an hour negotiating prices / tips and where we should sit. Everyone wants you to sit in their coffee shop of course. There are a lot of sellers and men with horses and the cafes play high music so you wont have a quiet moment on this beach.
There were a lot of waves and the sea can be very unpredictable. The best thing to do is to stand in the water and just enjoy the waves. The water was warm and pretty clean. It was very nice to be in the water after all the hassle.
The place itself is very beautiful and I enjoyed my day. But it's a pity that the sellers are so aggressive and you get tired of discussing about prices with them. You might end up paying a lot of tips to them all day long if you dont have someone with you who can negotiate for you.

One of the dirtiest, most horrible beaches I've ever been to!
Had to pay N1000 each to get access to this government beach then hassled by the guys trying to get us to ride their poor dishevelled horses. Place was deserted apart from the hawkers and a few young boys. It felt intimidating and I didn't feel comfortable at all and we left very shortly after.

If you are looking for a beach front with all kinds of activities and on a budget, Elegushi beach is the place.
I went with friends @ night and the place was super bubbly. Food, drinks and everything you need and a plethora of activities are lined up acroas the beach front and I doubt if they sleep atall. Clubs, lounges, bars and local arrangements also abound. Great energy!!

Watch out, the moment they think you are not from here they try to bride you big time. We had to pay over 3000 naira extra for sea view... excuse me? Sea view? What do you expect me to do when your at the beach, close my eyes?
Besides that, the moment you arrive a lot of people walk with you along the car and like propers they want you to go to their place. Those guys give an aggressive vibe and it’s not very welcoming because it’s the first thing you experience.
During day time it’s more quiet than at evening/night. Only thing during day time is the horses. Every second someone comes up to you and ask you if you wanna ride a horse.. no I don’t. During the night this place is crowded and noisy. Again not an “just see”.
It’s an ok place to visit, but if you wanna go to the beach to enjoy your time at the beach, not a place to go.

As I was staying not to far away from the beach we decided to drive there. Moma drove to the old entrance to ask if this was the main entrance which they confirmed. We paid entrance fee of 1000 Naira and then we were supposed to follow the motorbike who took us through some back rout to the beach. That rout was flooded most of the times and we did not know if we would actually get to the beach safe or if the car would drown as the water was very deep. The driver took us through the shack houses there and I did not feel safe at all (yes I do stand out as a tourist being white) and was very worried that we would get stuck there. Once reaching the parking area we saw that there was a big main entrance.
We parked and walked to the beach. The beach is nice but you do get approached by people trying to get you to come to their restaurants, ride a horse or buy stuff.
The tide is very strong but its ok to walk in the water as long as you dont go too far in.

I would like to know the price of your facility, I mean chairs & canopies to accomodate about 20 people.
Can we come with our own refreshments, if yes, does it attract any payment?

Like how much will it cost for more 20peoples instead of the usual 1000 single person?

Can one hang out on a Saturday at the Elegushi beach and still catch maximum fun? Do people turn out en masse on such a day?
Written June 1, 2018
Yes, Elegushi beach bubbles on Saturday until very late.

Abdulwahab has given the best response above; you really need to visit the beach, locate the actual tent of interest, and negotiate with eth owners.
Rates can range from free 9is event is not exclusive and will not affect other customers) to N100k if you want something exclusive. time and date of event is another point of concern.
Go ahead and have fun.
