Butterfly garden is beautiful, also turtles. Not big but ok. Later a walk around Charco Verde and swimming on beach Bacon. Some monkeys and birds and many butterflies also outside the garden. The walk with swimming took one hour.

Nice restaurant open to the elements overlooking the lagoon. We both had the soup for lunch, one fish, one chicken and these were very filling as they came with rice and plantains. So beware if you are looking for a light lunch! Both were tasty and enjoyable.
After we took a walk in the reserve with a guide, didn't see a lot as it was afternoon and very warm.

The Laguna at Charco Verde is a lovely secluded spot that is very quiet and relaxing. They also have a butterfly sanctuary that is very therapeutic. The walk around the laguna only takes about an hour and it is teeming with life.

Did a trail around laguna and saw many birds, lizzards and free butterflies with nice viewpoint of volcano Concepcion. It is easy walk covered mostly by trees. There is also well-maintained butterfly garden with beautiful flowers and lots of butterflies. Entrance fee 5USD for foreigners. If you have spare time on Ometepe you can visit it, otherwise I would recommend to just rent a bike and ride around this beautiful island.

Rode here on our rented moped, and were pleasantly surprised to find a enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. The gardens of butterfly world were beautiful, with the backdrop of the volcano. Not a huge number of butterflies, but some beautiful ones flying all around you.
A walk to the viewpoint (a gradual climb) to get a great view of the lake and volcanos in Costa Rica. Lots of birds, particularly in the lagoon, and howler monkeys if you're lucky (we weren't).
Walk to the beach for a swim, or head back to the hotel for some good food, views, and a swim there.

This is an absolute treasure of a nature reserve on Ometepe! The butterfly garden is definitely worth a visit ($5/person), with gorgeous flowers and a great variety of butterflies (including tons of Buckeyes and Monarchs). The trails are flat, easily accessible, and decently marked (we never asked for directions/map and never got lost). The path is a fine gravel around the Laguna (~1/3 full when we visited) and dirt to the mirador. The Laguna trail is max 2 miles and not strenuous with an outlet to see the beach. The mirador trail has a few different entry points, is steep, and climbs a few hundred meters (but only took about 10 minutes to climb despite carrying babies in hiking backpacks). There's an on-site bathrooms, gift shop, and free parking. This would be an ideal place to spend a day with a picnic lunch: alternate between hiking, swimming, exploring nature, and seeing beautiful butterflies. Guided tours are available, as well (we skipped this). We highly recomend a stop here and would absolutely come back/make a special trip to visit here again.

Do not miss this place if you're going to Ometepe. The laguna is located in the Charco Verde Nature Reserve, so you'll have to buy tickets to get in, but it's a short (and beautiful) 10 minute walk through the reserve to find the laguna. Once you get there, you'll be greeted by your own private beach with great volcano views. Few people tend to make their way to this gem, so it's an awesome place to bring a little picnic and hang out for the day. I'd recommend renting some scooters and heading to Charco Verde!

Walk around the laguna de Chaco Verde for some great lake Nicaragua views. On your way you might encounter some wildlife like monkeys and birds. Get to the mirador for even better views over the laguna. Also some nice views over the volcanos Concepcion and Madera. There is also a lovely beach along the trail where you can swim in the lake.
Lovely flower display near the entrance of the reserve.

We took a cab from Xalli to Charco Verde.
We walked around for a couple of hours. The Mirador del Diablo (lookout point) has a good view over the reserve.
There are some scenic volcanic beaches. And the views over the lagoon are also nice.
Many birds and geckos.
