As part of our walking tour of Rissani we were taken to this building. There is lots of restoration work going on at the moment as the buildings are in a very poor state. There was an elderly lady who appeared to live on the site, but our guide was allowed to show us around the many rooms and the courtyard. Sad to see what was originally a very grand building in such a poor state.

We stopped at the site on a Gate 1 tour, and it was an interesting stop during a day of riding. It was a little depressing - I guess someone is trying to restore areas, while squatters are living in other areas. It wouldn't be worth a trip in itself.

You can find more interesting things to do in Rissani and Merzouga, as Ksar El Fida is not even a museum anymore, but there is an enthusiastic septogenarian guard who will tour you around the facility, which does have some interesting architectural details. Someday, this will be an interesting museum, but not yet...

You can experience the Moroccan way of life - the Ksar made up of local materials that survived the test of time and the people from South of Morocco with their traditions.
I recommend that you visit this Ksar.

This is a fascinating visit and it felt like a privilege to even be there. It is a real Ksour, now crumbling but still housing several families living among the adobe walls. We had a guide, which I think is a good plan because he was able to explain about not just the history but the actually construction methods of the place. Just be careful if you are wanting to take photos because the people, as with many places in the Islamic world, really object to featuring in your holiday snaps.

It is a relatively well preserved ksar but apparently not always available for visits. Since 2005 it is a museum. Best to probably make arrangements prior if possible. Guided tours are at times available in French and Arabic. Imposing gate is the most memorable feature of the structure.

Great to understand how the Ksars were built - the straw mud walls, natural lighting, terrace drainage and walls and security - 65 families(each 3 generations) living there!

Ksar El Fida, is one of the well preserved ksar in Rissani where most of the ksours are ruined, so would recommend this place to be visited for learning about the local history and the ancient king palaces, as this one was one of them.
went inside here with the old man opening all doors of the palace in, and get amazed by the archeticture, the doors and how amazing the designs of the Moroccan southern style.
Love it.

This adobe village is unique and is located in the Oasis of Tafilalt 3 kilometers from the town of Rissani. It is well preserved considering that is is all made of adobe and covered with palm trees wood.
