Experience to live it and not to describe it. In my case they took us by 4x4 from Erfoud to the foot of the Erg Chebbi desert, to ride dromedaries that left us in the dunes until sunset. It is spectacular to contemplate the sunset surrounded by dunes of more than 150 meters high of that reddish sand. Additionally with this excursion, to complete the experience you could choose to spend the night in tents, tents for 2 or three people where you are unbearably hot and perhaps cold in winter. An experience to disconnect, reflect and take impressive photos of the desert. A mandatory excursion if you travel here. It is recommended to bring water and a scarf to protect yourself from the sun and sand if you are going to go at times when the sun is high. Totally recommended for families, couples and groups of friends.

we did both sunset safari and sunrise safari for 150 MAD each.
It was for about 1 1/2 hours each.
The camel owners will take you only about 4-5 kms inside the sahara from the main road.
However if you are a die hard fan and have time and are ready to bear the sun, I think doing a safari till deep inside would be good though we did not have time to do that.
The 1 1/2 hours safari which we did in January end 2017 was a really awesome experience. Must do for travellers. It was really cold early morning so you need to wear proper clothes.
Another option which we saw many people doing and we thought was very nice is that people walked till the sunrise point in the morning and walked back. So maybe if you are okay with walking in the dessert and have enough time you could do one walk but hey...camel ride is an awesome experience so can do both sunrise and sunset

The dunes of Erg Chebbi are the most important in Morocco; during our trip we stopped in Erfoud so we were there, with 4 x 4 at a certain distance of the dunes (for some years it has been strictly forbidden to use any motor vehicle to access the dunes!).

There are two possibilities, on foot or with one of the camels present (with a camel driver); less tiring but certainly less fascinating.

The program was to wait for the sunset in the dunes: a nice walk of an hour and found the right spot among these ochre sand dunes here that the desert offered us this fantastic show that in silence you can appreciate even more!

the dune itself is pretty and big enough esp for sunset and sunrise moment... however, no fix path for camel/4x4 etc...crossing. led the footprint or wheel trace spread onto sand which is extremely mess and ugly.....maybe too busy or not have good organize although it just impact photo taking but just think that not so pretty.

when i go further the the sand is much better and just think if good organize would be more pretty in whole dune. overall the shape of dune is quite beautiful and the sunlight also fit but just mess by wheel trace only.

Visiting the sand dunes was the highlight of our Morocco trip. There is the option of visiting them on a dromedary. Part of our group decided to explore the dunes on foot. You will certainly be accompanied by some locals who expect a tip at the end or that you buy something from them. Although it didn't look like it for a long time, we ended up experiencing a great sunset and a great atmosphere.

The highlight on the south-eastern border of Morocco. Basically, you can find this dune landscape all over North Africa, India and Namibia, where you are served sundowners. If you haven't seen it yet, then it's certainly very interesting. Whether it makes up for the one-day detour is something everyone has to decide for themselves.

It was time to catch the sunrise as we were awakened by the smell of rich coffee in our desert tent-camp. After a quick breakfast, we boarded our 4 x 4s to voyage out into the desert where we met up with Said and Aboud, two Berbers who owned a herd of camels. They were members of the Toureg tribe (associated with their blue garments and known as the blue people). We met and mounted our trusty steeds, also known as ships of the desert and ventured forth across the wavy sand, crossing dunes and enjoying views from on high. We were out for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before returning to our Toyota and Jeep 4X4s for a traditional glass of mint tea. A fantastic time was had by all.

Well... My opinion on this place is contrasted... On the one hand, the desert is an amazing place, and you really get to see beatiful place with nice landscapes.
On the other hand, this place is almost to accessible. The consequence is that you will not experience the desert as a place to find calm and peace. You will see lines of camels walking in your direction, many quads drinving like crazy. And if you look behind you, you'll see one camp next to the other... This is mass tourism and I did not expect that to be so intense here!

We had a great time in Erg Cheebi desert of Merzouga. We spent a night here as a part of 10 days in Morocco. We really enjoyed the amazing landscape and took nice photos at the sunset time. We highly recommend spending one night here!

Driving into the desert felt surreal. The dunes are gorgeous and the landscape is incredible. The backdrop changes on a daily basis as the wind shifts the dunes. The colors are gorgeous against the blue of the sky. Now comes the incredible sad part as is true with much of
Morocco—trash, litter and plastic is seen in many places. They blame it on the tourists but I think it is likely everyone. There seems no effort to pick it up.
