We were picked up from our hotel in the morning and immediately started seeing great species like Cream-colored Courser and Brown-necked Raven. By the end of the day we had tallied up an impressive list, including the aforementioned species as well as sought-after desert specialties such as Desert Sparrow, Crowned Sandgrouse, Tristram's Warbler, Greater Hoopoe-Lark and Fulvous Babbler (it was too early for Egyptian Nightjar). Otman and his son Muhammad were very knowledgeable guides despite the language barrier. A great tour!

My wife and I booked a 10 day tailor-made holiday with Birding Tours Morocco. The tour started in Marrakesh and travelled through the Atlas Mountains to Merzouga in the Sahara desert and then returned to the Atlantic coast. We spent some time planning the holiday with Otman who was very helpful making suggestions through emails about the options. All the arrangements went very smoothly and the quality of the hotels was good at all the locations with excellent breakfasts and dinners. Otman was very good at responding to our requests to visit a geological museum, special deer reserve and local school were accommodated. We travelled in a comfortable Land Cruiser driven by Otman who was accompanied by his son Muhammad. Some days we enjoyed a picnic including hot mint tea. We saw a good range of birds although inevitably some species were not seen, but that is the nature of birdwatching in the wild. However, Otman has good local contacts and he was able to use those to find specialities such as the nightjar located in a remote part of the desert and the Houbara Bustard was found after a long search but well worth his persistence. Otman also understood the need to position the vehicle to maximise the opportunities to take photographs. Although we travelled significant distances between locations, the landscapes were stunning and through Otman’s contacts, we were able to meet and learn about the Moroccan people. We completed our holiday with three nights in Marrakesh which was in stark contrast to travelling in the remote mountains and desert.
