If you are a ‘museum person’, go and spend half an hour getting to know the history of Malaysia oil industry is fine. Otherwise, not worth a special trip. Since opened in 2005, I don’t think it has ever been updated. No interactive tools worked. Most of the display boards were faded. 2 stars rated - one for the knowledge I learned there and 1 for the grand old lady.

This place has lots of information, but unfortunately it’s become very run down. None of the interactive sites work, the information boards are sun faded and the whole place feels grubby and dark. The staff were completely uninterested and mainly just sat on their phones with their feet up at the desk. I wouldn’t in good faith be able to recommend it.

This museum gives you a nice overview on the history of the oil exploration over the years in Miri.
The museum opened in 2005,interesting but on the same time it’s really not maintained, several screens are not working.

I visited the top of the Canada Hill where the petroleum museum is located. There is no public transport to the top of the hill but it was an easy Grab ride away from the city.
As an Oil and Gas practitioner, I found the Petroleum Museum to be interesting as it traced the history of oil discovery of Malaysia and displays of artefacts related to my field of work. The Museum and the Grand Old Lady were free to enter.
The views on top of the hill over Miri was great. I feel that this is a must-do site in Miri other than visiting the coastal areas.

As we only had one day in Miri, we decided to explore places within the city centre. We tried checking online for more info on the opening hours of this museum, but it had a page saying it is closed since Dec 2016 for refurbishment. The phone no. tagged to the Google page is in fact the no. for the Sarawak museum in Kuching, who didn't know if the museum in Miri is open or not. Hotel staff were equally clueless, telling us it is open. Worst still, the Visitors Information Center told us it should be open, that the refurbishment was completed a while back. So we took a cab all the way up Canada Hill. After being dropped off, we lingered a bit at the Grand Old Lady, and proceeded to the entrance, only to be told by a gardener that this place is closed. What a disappointment. And shame on the tourist department of Miri who can't even get their information correct.

when search about Miri..what 1st can do..go to grand old lady bcoz have 3 attaraction place!!1st the Grand Old Lady its self!!2nd The petroleum Meseum and 3rd canada Hill to see Miri view!!

The museum have been good when it was built many years ago but it is now in bad maintenance. Some of the display items is not in good condition, air condition breakdown.

One of the attraction place for Malaysian and foreign traveller as well.Visitors can experience an real earthquake conditions at the simulator installed.Furthermore,the admission is free of charge.

The museum was opened in 2005 and doesn't seemt to have been updated since. Hence the exhibits are looking a bit faded and dull by comparision with other O&G exhibits I've seen such as the National Musueum in Qatar. But still, it's interesting if you've ever thought for more than a few seconds where all that petrol and plastic comes from.
There was no aircon operating during my visit, just a few fans. But then it would hardly be justified by visitor numbers - I saw just three others there when I went on a weekday.

visited the museum during my visit to Miri.
When i was there, I was the only visitor, that was around 11am.
The museum shows the history of Miri and how it became the first settlement in Malaysia to be involved in Oil & gas industry.
But the exhibits looks outdated and lack of maintenance with few of them arent working/switched off.
