Amazing rainforest and designated are for pitcher plants. We saw a few water monitors in the park. A huge one climbing a tree and a smaller one on the boardwalk. Definitely recommend this quiet park for a peaceful walk in the nature. Two hours is enough for going around the whole walking path. Did not go to the forest paths. Remember to bring your bug spray, sunhat, sunscreen and plenty of water.

We spent a couple of hours walking around here. The views from above the canopy are more that worth the steps up the viewing platforms. It is truly beautiful, with so much to see and do, regular places to rest and catch your breath, but don't forget your water. There is a choice of trails to follow. Make sure to cross the rope bridge. There were plenty of insects, of various sizes to watch, great for bird lovers. We had a VERY close encounter with a rather long green snake that appeared to leap from the undergrowth on to the path we were strolling along, - hence the title of my review - I froze and shattered the blissfully tranquil rain-forest with ear bursting screams of obscenities for a good minute before I realised my legs did actually work and ran in opposite direction! Great memory though!

Forest green indeed give peace.
In this forest park, you can see various types of tumbahan that thrives around it.
Visit to this park early in the morning as promised air atmosphere and scenery is quite beautiful.
The forest park is not only suitable for doing research, but also suitable for leisure activities and relaxation.

After some time in Sandakan city it was so refreshing to escape to the rainforest discovery tour. Well worth a visit. if you stay at Sepilock you must include this in your itinerary. Lots of birds to see and hear as well as trees and calmness. A replica Malay house is nice to see, surrounded by orchards and spice trees. Watch the baby squirrels run. The tree top walk is high above the canopy and gives a new perspective.

I reside in Sandakan and go to Sandakan Rainforest Park regularly. It is a popular jogging site for local residents. It is a very clean park.
As a conservation-minded person, I find the following attractions/facilities at the park very useful and educational:
1. Nepenthes garden
2. Nature/topotype trails: no where else in the world can you find an extant site where 110 species of flowering plants have been named within a small area (148 hectares)
3. Pristine forests
4. Exhibition hall/gallery.
In the public consultation on the masterplan for the park on 29th March, 2008, it was revealed that many other eco-friendly facilities will be provided.

A great place beautifully landscaped but would advise go early in the morning if possible when it is cooler, we went mid day and the humidity was a killer. Amazing plants and lots to see and do - take water!

It took us quite an effort to find this place, I am sure it is not somewhere many tourists find! Please note this place is NOT the Rainforest Discovery Center as described in the last few entries - there is no canopy walk or lake and it is free to enter... if you manage to get there! My husband and I had rented a car so drove there - it is on a road called Jalan Tshun Ngen which is off Jalan Utara, the old route 22 into Sandakan. If driving from the Sandakan direction the turning is on your left, after a big crossroads with traffic lights and just before an Esso petrol station.
The park itself is nice. The locals use it as an exercise ground! There is a good sized car park, small shop (sells ice cream) and map showing you the trails. There is a sealed (concrete) 'jogging path' (with some steep hills!) and a few nature trails that lead into the forest come off these sealed paths. The nature trails are reasonably short but you MUST stick to them - it would be easy to get lost and the forest has some steep drops that I wouldn't fancy navigating without help. You shouldn't need boots but I imagine the paths along the nature trails get slippery when wet. We also found some quite steep sections - there is rope to help you along but going down is still a little tricky for those without 'mountain goat' feet. We saw more local joggers than wildlife (& no tourists!) but there is plenty for the botanists out there - lots of the trees have info in English pinned to them. If you have some time and want something free, a little different and which gives you some exercise it is definitely worth it!

No opening times given but I imagine it is open between sunrise and sunset at the least.

We are told that quite a few people come jogging here, but we had the place to ourselves, except for a few very friendly staff. We came by taxi, but as the park is a little isolated, the manager very kindly gave us a lift in his car back to nearest bus stop. You are not permitted to walk unguided in the nature trails here in case you get lost, but the walk along the extensive jogging tracks, that run through this small rainforest, are very pleasant.
Worth a short visit.

It is an amazing walk and you will get the lost with the nature as you walk and listen to the bird singing on the trees. The time stop as you are surrounded by the trees and you will have an amazing experiences as you try the canopy walk. It is so trill and amazing as you have the view of the forest from the upper view. Amazing!!!!!
