- Mihaela11Amman, Jordan5,745 contributionsHidden hystoryOur safari guide took us on an incredibly beautiful area: Khazali canyon. It is a 100 narrow area with petroglyphs depicting humans( even women giving birth) and animals and Islamic,Talmudic and Nabatean inscriptions. Our guide -Abdel Karim- even if he was very young was very professional and well informed. Wear comfortable sport shoes since the path is very narrow.Visited July 2020Written August 6, 2020
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,405 contributionsCarvings are thousands of years oldThis canyon is related to the Wadi Rum area. The canyon has petroglyphs (rock carvings) with animals and humans, with writing in ancient scripts. Many of the native animals are no longer found wild in the area. It's likely that the petroglyphs are thousands of years old. By the way, a wadi is a dried watercourse that fills up once in a blue moon and a jebel is a mountain.Visited November 2022Written November 10, 2022
- sugarconeAmman, Jordan362 contributionsHistorical inscriptionsThe mountain located at the protected area of Wadi Rum (Rum valley) has a narrow short canyon, its inner walls are covered with numerous Nabatean, Islamic (Kufic), and Thamudic inscriptions and petroglyph rock drawings. we were told that at the end of the canyon there are several man-made water pools to collect rainwater, we did not have the chance to see them.Visited September 2020Written September 11, 2020
- Shay3 contributionsVery short canyonMost visitors only enter the beginning of the canyon. 50 meters of walking. The canyon ahead is only for mountaineers. A nice place for those who only want to see. Those who are interested in a real hike are better off getting to Borda BridgeVisited December 2019Written January 16, 2020
- K72Melbourne, Australia2,919 contributionsBeautifulAnother beautiful sight within the desert. The canyon is small with narrow passageway. There are some carvings/artwork on the rocks. Lovely rock formation worth a look. Some of our older group members found the walkway a little tricky...but they had mobility issues. I thought it was quite ok to walk into the canyon. Just take your time.Visited January 2019Traveled soloWritten January 14, 2019
- Zoltan KJerusalem, Israel82 contributionsExtreme Hiking on Jebel KhazaliThis time we not just visited the short popular canyon, but also hiked and rappelled on and in the nice mountain. This extreme hiking takes about one or two days. We started at the East side of the mountain climbing up and in the end streamed out from the main Khazali Canyon out. This tour is not so popular in Wadi Rum. It is more canyoning than rock climbing, but it is beautiful place with many fun.Visited April 2017Traveled with friendsWritten April 20, 2017

Definitely full day excursion. Only for guided teams (if beginners) or experienced climbers. More difficult after heavy rains becvause you're forced to rock climb or swing-rappel to avoid swimming in the water holes. Impossible and absolutely dangerous during rain.Visited January 2019Written January 8, 2019

I did not climb the mountain, but walked through the small canyon here. It is not large, and if you are rushing through could be done in just a few minutes. However, it is worth taking your time in the canyon.
First, when you get inside, you should notice a significant drop in the temperature. If the desert heat is starting to get to you, this is a very welcome respite! And by taking your time, you can really get a good look at the 2,000 year old petroglyphs that line the canyon walls. There are examples of Nabatean (pre-arabic) words, along with images of camels, child-birth and other things.
The scenery of the canyon is varied, with the dramatic sandstone cliffs on each side of you, the green vegetation that grows here, and the sandy floor.
At the end of the short walk there is a pool of water, which, unfortunately, does smell as if it has been used as a toilet. The water is not fresh and clean, but aside from that very bit at the end, the canyon walk is well worth the few minutes it takes.
This walk is appropriate for just about any fitness level.

We went to the Wadi Rum with a Gate 1 tour. We started off by going in 4WD through the desert while sitting in the back of pickup trucks that hold 6 people. Then you can either continue to the next stop in the trucks or take a camel ride. Half took the camel rides. We then stopped for tea and discussion at a place where Lawrence of Arabia had a meeting. Next was more beautiful desert scenes going to an authentic Jordan meal that was cooked underground. It was delicious. Overall, if you have the time, do not miss the Wadi Run.

We went to this place 2nd on our tour and its color is special. Inside the canyon has many drawings and old writings. We got some great pictures here. Our guide told us we could climb up higher if we wanted but we didnt choose to do it as we are not climbers. It was one of our favourite stops on the tour.
