    Beautiful red sands
As someone who lives in a desert environment (Arabian) I wasn’t expecting it to be so spectacular, but I was pleasantly surprised. The red sands makes it feel like you are off this earth and I would recommend a safari ride to go and explore the different land formations. We stayed in one of the ‘Marian tents’ which just added to the experience. Beautiful scenery!

    Perfect
Totalmente recomendable! Everything was perfect, from the Jeep tour we did with his father where they showed us the whole desert, they cooked food for us in the desert and we also did sandboarding. The place is spectacular and the attention from the family as well. We had dinner at the camp, the food was delicious and prepared by them in the desert! Totally recommended!

    Awesome!
Awesome desert! I stood there on January 2023 and I can say it was an incredible experience. We went on a 4x4 tour and we could saw some nice and special places there (where Lawrence of Arabia lived, a rock bridge, a big mushroom, some walls where climbers climb...), but the best I recommend, is to spend a morning or even a day at your own there. You will need a GPS like a sportswatch or having really good skills on orientation, because you can get lost easily.

    Real Jordan's highlight
Wadi Rum is a must do when in Jordan. Amazing experience not only for nature lovers. Is possible, take full day tour to fully enjoy what Wadi Rum has to offer. Good shoes are required, as in many places rock climbing is requisite. Great views, pictures and memories guaranteed.

    Awesome scenery
Drove from the visitors centre in 4 x 4 to desert camp. Watched sun go down where Lawrence of Arabia once amassed beduin tribes and David Lean filmed..Onroute we crossed the actual rail line built by the Ottoman Empire that Lawrence helped destroy and there,to climb on,is the actual train used in the motion picture!!! Also more recently Dennis Villeneuve filmed Dune (part1) Stunning landscape. Large number of desert camps set up in nooks along the way and numerous 4x4 vehicles moving across. Under a main flightpath so planes can be heard in the quiet of the night. Clear sky, extreemly cold!! Camel ride(as always) fun but went in a circle and then a short walk to visitor centre, did not feel like a trek/excursion but more like the donkey rides on the breach one took as a child. would have preferred visit in warmer weather but less busy in winter.

Some tips to this amazing place!
Stunning but cold! (January trip). We did a private tour on our own with a Bedouin young man and his new pick up truck 4WD. It was really brilliant. You’re going to need WARM clothes (tip: buy a Bedouin style coat from a souk. It’s a long open style coat made of fake shearling and very warm! We bought two, one each and they’re still keeping us very warm back in the UK with heating being so expensive!) There are opportunities to stay overnight in the desert, but I’m not sure I’d recommend that, we didn’t stay overnight.. there’s an awful lot of these kind of geode shape, things all round the desert, and to be honest, quite crammed together. If you want a really fancy place to stay in the desert, the captains hotel in Aqaba have a place in wadi rum. They have some rooms to stay there in the desert, which are actually cut into the rock. They have all mod cons too! We were shown those and they looked really fab. We didn’t want to see the “mushroom rock “in the desert, because it didn’t look very interesting! So our guys took us to this amazing place instead, which has the most incredible echo around the mountains.

Understanding the geological history of this place increases its charm.
I experienced Wadi Rum on a group trip, staying overnight at “Al Zawaideh Desert Camp”. The experience we had of the desert is therefore the one organized for us by the camp during the afternoon, until sunset. The route covered a good part of the protected area, up to the great rock bridge of Kharaz, and stopped on the way back to watch the sunset. It was thus possible to admire the various aspects of the desert: the ocher colored quartz sand cemented rocks resulting in steeper and sharper cliffs (red sandstone, in the northernmost part of the protected area)); and the rocks of fine white quartz sand, resulting in rounder formations (white sandstone, in the southern section, towards the Saudi border). After our excursion, I was motivated to understand the genesis of this wonderful area, and I therefore learned that the formations that can be admired today were originated, for hundreds of meters in height, by flows of quartz sand dragged towards the north by rivers water originating from present-time Egypt, when the rift of the Red Sea did not yet exist. These flows are deposited on a very ancient, "pre-Cambrian" ground (more than 540 million years ago), and traces of which can sometimes be seen in the granite layers underlying the sandstone. Subsequently these deposits cemented, for tens of millions of years.. After that, these deposits rose up to the heights at which we see them now, due to tectonic thrusts, and erosion shaped and shredded the deposits for a long time, producing the towers and cliffs we see today. By this way, understanding well what I have seen, the initial amazement, only aesthetic, is "nourished" by awareness, and strengthens the enjoyment.

Amazing landscape. Used in many movies.
Wadi rum is a very large desert and cliff area. There are a lot of glamping locations for those that want to stay and explore the area. A lot of movies were made there from Lawrence of Arabia up to Star Wars. We did a 4x4 adventue and saw a lot in a short amount of time. If you are able to do this. We recommend

A piece of the Red Planet
The Wadi Rum landscape is out of this world. It looks like a small piece of plateau from Mars had accidentally fallen into Earth millions of years ago, Due to wind and water erosions, each rock formation is unique and some look like an old civilization with inscriptions carved on them. Wadi Rum is massive in size and it is not possible to travel around the area on your own. There are a lot of tour packages in the village which you can choose from and some will include accommodation. Be prepared to walk and climb a lot. The sand dunes here are not high but yet can be quite exhausting to climb up. Um Frouth Rock Arch is one of the most impressive rock formations but climbing up needs a lot of courage due to the steep slopes. Other attractions like Siq Um Al Tawa, and Lawerence Spring also offers very stunning views and experience. To experience the daily Bedouin lifestyle, I opted for a tour package that included a night stay in the Bedouin tent. Due to the low peak season, there are no other tourists in the camp and I enjoyed an exclusive treatment from the host with a delicious bedouin dinner. After which, we sat beside the fireplace for the entire night to get to know each other better. It is an extraordinary experience and I will definitely come back again to explore further.

Stunning. Pictures do not do Wadi Rum justice.
The pictures just don’t give you the sense of scale of Wadi Rum. It is beautiful to look at, lots to explore. You might need to be reasonably fit to climb and even walking up the sand dunes is harder than it looks, but even if you’re not particularly fit, there is so much to see when you’re on a tour with one of the Bedouin who are permitted to drive in Wadi Rum that it’s worth a visit for everyone. We had a tour through our accommodation (Aicha Memories) and had the option of being in the back, or in the cab of the “jeep” (Toyota Hilux) which is more comfortable. Initially we booked a 3 hour tour because once you’ve seen sand & rocks, you’ve seen it? But actually - we were wrong and could have quite happily booked the longer 5 hour tour. It amazes me that even in this place of natural beauty, there is a small amount of rubbish / vandalism - I have no idea what goes through people’s entitled heads to think that this is acceptable? How disrespectful to the Bedouin tribes and to Jordan. This small issue notwithstanding, this is a truly amazing place to visit and can turn a nice trip into holiday of a lifetime.

One of the most beautiful places I;ve ever been to. The tours / excursion have been standardized a lot and everybody sees roughly the same points, but scale of tourism is still relatively modest. Looking at other places of Jordan, like the Red Sea and Jerash, this will probably not last forever.
At this time the place is still breathtaking, locals are still being paid fairly and nature is still taking care of (but you will see an occasional plastic bag in the middle of the desert...).
There are a few high-end camps to stay. Avoid them. The low-end ones are much more fun; I can highly recommend them.

Wadi Rum is one of my top two favorite places in Jordan. We stayed one night in Sun City Camp and did a 5-hour jeep tour with short hikes. We saw three arches and beautiful scenery.

Desert tour with Omar Ghazi . We were looking for a guide to Wadi Rum for a half day trip . There were many offers , but how to choose between them ? The price is almost the same , so the only difference is the guide , or where he takes you , how you chat with him , what he knows about the desert , how likeable he is . We were looking for clues - he has a camp, he has his own cars , he does other kinds of activities, he's not an overseller. And you could say we hit the jackpot. Directly to the owner of one of the small camps deeper in the desert , with classic Bedouin tents, the desert, a bevy of acquaintances after each stop and a very personal approach - look for Omar Ghazi. I understand it sounds like an advert but we were really impressed . Wadi Rum was like something from another planet , it was clear to us that half a day in the desert is actually not enough , but unfortunately the flight from Aqaba did not wait. It is hard to describe what we saw , the contrasts of shapes, colours, the influence of the water, the local culture, the excellent tea . Fak and his wife and I enjoyed the sunset -again I have to commend Omar , alone on a different piece of rock , the rest of the other agencies jeeps were piled on another bigger rock. Privacy , consideration when he parks the Hilux , so you don't have him in the shot.

Wadi Rum is a natural wonder. It is an incredibly vast and beautiful desert full of unique rock formations, red dunes, and fascinating 2000-year old Nabatean inscriptions. I would recommend a 2-night, 2 day stay in one of the camps within the protected area (note that a lot of camps are located outside of the protected area!). The camps can also organise a range of activities such as jeep tours, camel rides and sunrise/sunset excursions.

The desert was amazing but can be quite confusing when trying to price up different tours. The camps are either in the protected area or outside. If inside they can take you to all the attractions inside. If outside they are limited as to where you can go.
At the visitors centre there is a list of all the prices that should be charged for the different tours both inside and outside the protected area. They are priced per jeep not per person.
If you go to the visitors centre this is what you will be charged although sometimes in quieter periods you may get a discount.
We found some camps tried to charge us per person so check the rates before you go.

Bouncing around in a canopied jeep while riding through a desert would not be my choice of experiences, but for some, such an outing could be exciting. It was interesting seeing lots of sand but always similar sights. There were indeed several photo stops just for visitors which of course would be the highlights. However, although I will not downgrade this to impact the score for others who might enjoy, I would definitely not spend the time or money on another trip to the area.

As part of our tour we took a 4x4 ride through the desert and arrived at our camp in time for the sunset.
We also got to stop along the way and run up a sand dune which was so simple but incredible. The sand was so soft and red I’ve never seen anything like it. It felt amazing between your toes!
They also made a stop for us next to 6000 year old carvings/ pictures which was incredible to see. It showed how long they have been using camels before which predated the original theory’s.
A completely unique experience and we would recommend it to anyone. (Totally Jordan tour with on the go tours)
