You can find this place just after the Amir Chaqmargh square. These strongmen ranges from the young to the old and they show their battle-readiness by swinging heavy clubs, doing fancy footwork and doing sets with bows. There is a drummer/ singer who channels the energy to these strongmen by singing about Imam Ali and Hussayn (I think, i apologise if i am wrong). Very cool to watch, those club swinging is harder than it looks because i tried swinging the 8kg ones after their workout.

Zurkhane which literally means the house of strength is a place for men to practice a form of Persian martial arts. It is located in an ally-way just north of Amir Chakhmagh Square. It is open to tourists and not only can you observe this combination of dancing and weightlifting activity that is steeped in Shi’ite mysticism, but also investigate the 15th-century water tank housed beneath the building, and experience the cooling effects of Yazdi badgirs (wind-catchers) first-hand.

We dropped in to this complex on the off chance something would be happening. A couple of young blokes were training and they were happy to put on a show for us. The different activities that make up this sport were very interesting to watch and it was plain to see the boys/men participating thoroughly enjoyed it. We were invited to lift the wooden clubs and they ranged from light to extremely heavy, which gave us a better appreciation for how skilled the movements were. Underneath the complex is a vast water reservoir, which you can also visit. If you can't find this place, look from the square for the building with the 5 wind towers on it. Head down the laneway and the door is on the right.

if you have time make sure you stop to watch this curious workout routine! nothing like you've ever seen before. even though the audience gets over crowded, still worth a visit.

The demonstration is really worth it. It takes +- 45 minutes. You can see the water tank below too. The tea etc they offer you has the be paid in the end but is as inexpensive as everywhere

We came to see the water reservoir in the morning, and didn't know what is this strange place with strange objects. But the owner showed us everything (how to use each of them), and it amazed us. Never seen a sport like it, something at the same time spiritual and artistic and traditional. Unfortunately we didn't have time to return for the training, but it must have been interesting!
